Jimmie has been intensely post-ictal today. His teacher wrote that he had a tiny seizure and then proceeded to rub his left ear and did so until he fell asleep. I have noticed the ear rubbing in connection with seizures myself and put it off to some kind of auditory aura...maybe a ringing in his ears. He was home for an hour or so, had another seizure at lunch and fell asleep again for 3 1/2 hours. Again, not a particularly hard seizure. Just a quick head drop. Sometimes the little ones knock him out more than the harder ones. He seems fine now. In fact I just had to rescue Charlie from him. They were playing together on the floor, when Jimmie decided to grab Charlie by the head, push him to the floor, and lay a big long hard forceful kiss on his forehead while pretty much laying on top of him. LOL

Great that master Jimmie is fine now.

Charlie is quite a character, full of love for his big brother, but in a very bold and boyish way :)

Do you need to check for an ear infection? Rubbing the ear could be a sign of pain.

He only rubs it when he has a seizure, so I think, not an ear infection.

Sorry, I was on the phone with my husband when I tried typing that last post. Jimmie has been doing it for a while. I asked his pediatrician about it when he had his physical for school, and his ears were clean. I do not believe it is an infection. He is not running a temperature. And he only seems to do it when he is post-ictal or about to have a seizure. I think there may be some pain, whether it is a ringing in his ears, or just a headache behind his ear. But I think it is seizure related and not infection. I, of course, will ask again when he goes back to the doctor for his flu shot. He likes his head rubbed, including that spot behind his ear, when he is trying to go to sleep. Heck, the AED's may even be causing headaches for all I know. It's so hard to tell with a non-verbal child. If it were a new or unusual behavior I would be more concerned about it, but it's not. It's a daily occurrence.
