Hi all,

I posted quite a while back asking if there were any creams/ointments that people found effective in reducing the appearance of scars. I just came across an article that discusses a new treatment that those who responded may be interested in. It's a ways out (2015 apparently) and doesn't appear to be effective on existing scars - just new ones. But it provides some interesting reading. No connection to the company...

I think if my scars were more visible (I DON'T wear a bikini ! And I am able to cover up fairly quickly if at a public pool) I would consider using this cream. But I don't really think scars are a big issue for me. If I start losing my hair, then that would be ANOTHER issue  !

I'm the same as Nat - no bikini for me and because of that I don't see them as an issue. But does anyone have any thoughts as to dissolvable stitches leaving more of a scar than normal ones? I don't care, I HATE having stitches out (and don't get me started on staples :eek:) but I just wondered what people thought. There is also a product being marketed in the UK called Bio Oil I think, but I haven't tried it. Thanks for the info though.

Eeek Lauren, I had staples for my last surgery.. I didn't like it. :/ They freaked me out and it's bad enough thinking of your head being cut open..the fact that they STAPLED it together..yuuckk. I don't think I have a choice in the decision, though.

Thanks for the heads up on the scar cream. I think it's a little too late for me, my stomach scars are years old and the newest one on my head is also six or seven months old. I do wear bikinis and I do sometimes get self conscious but they're not even that noticeable anymore.

I do hope when this cream finally comes out it will help many people with feeling better about their scars!!

I havent used this as of yet, but I hear Bio-oil is suppose to be very good for existing scars.
I want to try it to see if it can reduce the scars on the side of my face from my craniotomy and one of the scars on my stomach. The scar on my stomach has been reopened and sewn back up about 7 times now and so its got VERY messy where as it used to be very neat upto last september.
Im off to orlando tomorrow for 2 weeks and i plan on wearing my bikini in and around the pool, just weary of this scar now after seeing just how 'minging' it has got, yesterday was the first day that i actually sat down and looked at it.
I have been offered to have plastic surgery on it to make it a neat scar...wella plastic surgeon at the hospital mentioned having it if i felt conscious.

There's some stuff called Dermatix C in Canada that we've been using for Alex. Apparently plastic surgeons swear by it. Alex's scars seem to be fading a little but she's 2 1/2 so I think they would have faded without the cream as well so it's a little hard to tell if the cream did anything. I know scars are small potatoes compared to other issues. Alex had a drain for quite a long time because she was getting antibiotics injected right into her ventricles so they had tunnelled it down to her chest and it had a tendency to leak so they had to suture a few times. Made a bit of a mess unfortunately. We just call them her badges of honour. But she'd probably appreciate them as faded as possible when she hits those tough teen years.

Not sure about staples - I haven't had them. The skin on my head is becoming too fragile. Again - thank God for hair ! But dissolvable stitches are usually used more internally, or if the scar is in a difficult to reach place. I think the idea of them is though, that they leave less of a scar.
