So, just in case nobody else has noticed, I'd like to point out that discussions are getting out of hand pretty regularly now and there have been some farewells...

There are a lot of things happening in the political arena that are indeed relevant here, so I guess it's natural that these topics would come up for discussion.
But politics tend to inflame- and I think that they are ruining the mood of this forum.

Sure, a lot of these topics are relevant to BT users, but they're also causing fractures in a community that was intended to provide support and information to patients and families. I don't want to have to consider your political views, or the names you recently called another member, before I decide if I will answer your question, read your thread, or post to provide support because you've been having a hard time.

I'd like to urge those who have strong feelings about the political climate to consider joining a politically based forum in addition to BT.

I'm not advocating censorship, rather asking those that feel compelled towards heated political discussions to find an outlet for that energy outside BT, so that we can get back to basics here.

Braintalk is a terrific place and it's really a wonderful thing that we can all have this resource in our lives. I was a regular poster here before the first crash, singing Taylor Hick's praises on Abby's thread. During the crash I found some other cool sites, but after a hiatus, I came back. This really is a special place and I hope we can value it for the uniqueness it has and make it a comforting part of everyone's day. Ken

I agree with you, Kay. Very thoughtful. It is not just politics, it is money and that makes people nervous.

Thanks for not tar and feathering me guys!

Ann, I agree- money issues get everyone's dander up.

Thanks,

Kay,

Your post is right on and I have been thinking along the same lines myself. There are enough "experts" on the TV, in the news papers and on blogs that I don't want to get inundated with more experts when I come to read posts on a MS group.

Do you suppose that the topics are veering too far off base because there has not been much research news lately? When I first started reading posts from various sites years ago, I was mainly looking for new research that I might not be familiar with, but now I am seeing off target, flaming posts which is contrary to the purpose of these types of support groups.

Your suggestion that people who want to voice their political views should head for political blogs is exactly right.

Yes, I totally agree and suggest that it takes two to start a discussion so if we don't enter into the political forum it should just quietly go away......

According to my info, last night, Kay posted this on her "Back to Basics" thread:

At 6:51 this morning Abby wrote the following on the same threat (Post#2):

"I agree"

-------------------
Then, literally five minutes later at 6:56am, Abby posted this on the "26 Lies..." thread (post #10):

"Tell me Gabby (may I call you Gabby?) what do you think of subtitle C-11 Section 2521 National Medical Device Registry?
Abby" ( there were a few sarcastic comments from Abby in between, but I digress...)

------------------------

Okay Abby, the above exchanges signal to me that although you may pay lip service to respecting other people on this board who have different views from your own, utimately, your goal is to spread your own "gospel." You have repeatedly belittled people who challenge your opinions with your BIG COLOURED FONTS, and flippant replies to genuine enquiries (mine inlcuded).

This is my request to you Abby...Please take your political agenda elsewhere. I am interested in all things "MS, " which is why I'm an avid reader of this board. And I do understand that this is an important time in US history with regard to health care among many other things, but I'm not interested your attempts at indoctrination or fear mongering.

That said, I will continue to respect who you are as we have the common bond of being dx with MS. And I know that it's hard and it's not fair and a number of other things. And I know we all cope as best we can.

Peace to all,
Hope

Wow. I had no idea. I guess it's because I never read the Political threads.

I understand what it is like though when someone has crossed the line though.

Hope (hey, that's kind of funny) it all works out.

Sincerely,

Smith

MS forums certainly aren't where I go to brush up on politics!

There is so much (not sugar) here that I don't even know where to put this. Kay, I hope you don't mind but to your point, I am finding it stressful to read this MS forum these days! Don't need that.

ANN
Let me know when it's safe to come out again.

Ann,

I'm sorry if I upset you. I wasn't trying to be snide.

I didn't mean to slight MS forums, or any of the folks who come to them. There are a lot of people who post here who are a great deal more intelligent and informed than I am, about MS, and maybe even politics.

Even if these political discussions are relevant, they're causing so much dissention that they're dividing a community that was intended to be supportive.

Back and forth bantering, nit-picking, and name calling are making this an ugly place to visit for me. And this has happened outside of political threads as well. It doesn't inspire trust in me.

BT provided me with support when I needed it. The tone is not as friendly, and I miss seeing some of those familiar names. It makes me sad, and slightly angry.

Oh, no Kay! You are fine and I agree with what you wrote. I was apologizing for putting my last comment in your thread. It is not clear where it should go. I literally felt tense reading here today. The forum, not your thread. I am so sorry that you thought I meant you. See, tense is all around.

Yes, tense all around! Ann, I think you posted in the right place, sorry I misunderstood.

The Bull$hit to Support ratio is all out of whack.
The bull$shitters need to work out their problems through the PM function, or learn to control themselves and resist the temptation to engage in these forays.

We all have offline problems aside from MS, and it's time to move on.

“The Secretary shall establish a national medical device registry (in this subsection referred to as the ‘registry’) to facilitate analysis of postmarket safety and outcomes data on each device that—‘‘(A) is or has been used in or on a patient; and ‘‘(B) is a class III device; or ‘‘(ii) a class II device that is implantable.”

In “real world speak”, according to this report, this new law, when fully implemented, provides the framework for making the United States the first Nation in the World to require each and every one of its citizens to have implanted in them a radio-frequency identification (RFID) microchip for the purpose of controlling who is, or isn’t, allowed medical care in their country.

It goes without saying, of course, that this new “Med-Chip” American's will be forced to have put inside them will not only control their access to medical resources, but will also enable their government to know their whereabouts, spending habits, and so much more as to effectively make these people nothing more than “human cattle” to be herded, controlled, and if they object to their new status, led to the slaughterhouse.

And for those American’s believing they will be able to escape from having these Med-Chips implanted in them they better think again, because, as they will soon discover to their horror, under the laws of their country designed to protect them against pandemics, and other such health emergencies, their President, and governments, have unlimited power and can order their citizens to do, or take, anything their officials tell them to.

Abby, how DARE you post that lying garbage on this thread, which was an attempt to heal the rifts brought about by recent political postings?

P.S. I'll be glad to delete my post if asked, but I wanted to make sure Abby isn't allowed yet another vile hit & run post, deleted later after the damage is done, with people left in the dark about its extreme content.

P.S. I know better than to stop into this forum these days, because, as usual, now I'm shaking all over with anger and I feel like my chest is going to explode. Was hoping in vain that this thread would lead to healing, tone down the political agendas, and bring me back to visit with those I've considered friends.

I apologize to the forum in general for showing my anger and frustration, but not for my deeply held beliefs. I physically can't take this crap any more.

I was hoping that this thread would heal some rifts, too. :(

Susan and Ann: It's been anxiety and anger provoking for me to read here lately as well. I haven't spent as much time here because of that, and have been thinking about not returning.

I was really hoping that this thread would help. I don't think anyone should leave, but I was hoping to change some harmful behavior patterns and/or direct some folks (yes, more than 1 person) to better outlets for their ideas.

We're just going to end up losing more members to other forums if things don't change. Maybe there won't be big-to-do's about the farewells, but people will drift quietly away.

Hi to all reading this thread...

I just wanted to say that I am sorry that I responded somewhat negatively on this most positive of threads. I was truly frustrated.

I also want everyone to know that I, for one, have benefitted (sp?) greatly from everyone's knowledge, ideas and empathy here and that I'm forever grateful for that.

Peace,
Hope
