Garbrielle,
Cute cartoon... more light reading for you just as you told us.
I'd like to say more about the political action Web site moveon.org, where you found your cartoon, but discussing politics is strictly forbidden on BT forums, in case you didn't know.
I wonder why you haven't yet apologized to Abby for your childish name-calling behavior.
Hmmm... light reading... name calling... not apologizing... posting cartoons...
May I ask how old you are?

Thanks Gabriella,
That was great, and pretty right on from what I've seen in the news. Go to the Huffington Post website and read the article written by Bill Maher that is similar but much more detailed. Thanks to Agate for posting that one at another website. :)

Read the bill.
Silly cartoons will not salvage the medical system in this country, but they are likely to convince a lot of people that the contents of the bill are innocuous. It's not.
Because the bill didn't get rammed through, lots of people have gotten the chance to read it; anyone that is who takes the time, and that is certainly not our elected representatives who think that it's not necessary to read a bill to vote upon it, have had the opportunity.
We need health care reform, but the bill in the form that it is in will tank health care in this country. The exchange of "health care for all," will lead to "health care for none."
I am grateful that the debate goes on. Perhaps they'll get it together, somehow and produce something that really is reform.
But this bill is not it. It's really not.

Yes, Patti, I have read the bill.....all 1100 pages. The question is have you also read the bill and have you let your representatives know what your opinions are? The silly cartoon was put here to lighten up what has become a very tense situation.........

Evening Gabriella,
I have read the bill, and I have written to my representatives asking them to vote against it, or to change it.
By the way: The lighthearted humor is neither light hearted nor humorous. It's source is moveon.org, the bastion of all things liberal, and its attempt to trivialize the concerns of people who have read the bill and find it inadequate or dangerous is both offensive and disappointing.
It's definitely not funny.
The divide on the bill often seems to fall along the along the lines of, "What's in this for me?" contrasted to "What is this going to do to our nation and our health care system?"
I've read huge sections of it from both paradigms, and I'll be very happy if it gets canned or hopefully, rewritten.
PattiLee -
What the heck does The exchange of "health care for all," will lead to "health care for none." mean?
IMHO, that's more than a tad Orwellian

Patti Lee, I know the source of the moveon.org is liberal democracy. Why do you think I posted this view?
I posted it to counter all the extreme right-wing nut cases that are posting lies about the health care bill.......I find those views very offensive.

So do I. There are many people sending right wing propaganda to my email each day. It's offensive to receive and insulting that they would think I would actually believe such rubbish.
I want my friends to have basic health care and medicine available to them. There are many out there with MS and other chronic conditions that cannot get health insurance coverage through no fault of their own. I don't really care what the conservative right thinks about them not deserving to be insured or what their excuses might be this week. I'm sorry that my friends don't make enough money to make them belong to the middle class. It's through no fault of their own. Shame on those that let the likes of Rush Limbaugh tell them what to think.

I agree Elizabeth, I have two sons who are self-employed and have extremely high insurance cost for their families. There are millions of middle class Americans who are working every day and can't afford to pay the rates that are charged for private insurance. This is the reason we need change in our health care system.
As for myself, since I am disabled, I have Medicare coverage as well as the secondary insurance I retained when I had to take an early retirement. For both of those I pay over $350.00 a month. I am thankful I retained my insurance because my official diagnosis of MS did not come at the time of my retirement. With BigPharm charging thousands of dollars for MS drugs, we need all the help we can get.

My husband and I pay $1006 a month out of pocket for our coverage. It's through his union and he's retired so we can still stay on the group plan. That's just our monthly out of pocket expense. We have to spend a huge chunk of money each year for my healthcare alone. Right now I'm unemployed but trying very hard to find another job. I'd love to find a government job that would give us an affordable group plan but we know how that is.
Will an employer want to hire me at 51 years old with MS? Or somebody young and healthy and more productive?
Somebody that I like on another board told me I should get a job that provides cheap insurance. Well I'd love to do that, but the jobs are very scarce today. I've worked hard all of my life and it looks like I might have to spend my retirement savings on healthcare. I'm ok with that if it has to be. But for those who cannot pay, there needs to be an affordable option. I might even fall into that category one day. Any of us could fall into that category if something catastrophic should happen in our lives.
We should just thank God that we have a president who cares enough to try to fix the healthcare system in this country.
