can TN affect you sense of smell? Lately, I have felt a burning sensation in my nose when I have an increase in activity in facial pain and burning. I can 'almost' smell ammonia, or kitty litter maybe? But the smell is always just out of reach to identify. I then get the burning sensation, like I had just taken a big whiff of bleach. I can almost taste the ammonia.

Or maybe it's a fibro thing

Hi SS,
I don't know if this is what you are talking about, but whenever I increase my anti-seizure meds, I always get a hyper-sensitized sense of smell. I will then go throughout my house and try to figure out how to make stray smells go away.
After the surgery to install the shunt in my head, I could not bear to eat anything because it all smelled off. It lasted so long, I thought it was permanent. Thank god it went away! I love food too much for that!
That's my smell story - hope it helps. I never got burning or tingling with it.

the trigeminal nerve goes to the sinsues. I can not help but wonder if it is affecting your sense of smell. Are you sure also you do not have a sinus infection? when my sense of smell is like what you describle I often have a case of sinusitist.
If this continues to concern you I would talk to your GP.

I do not have the sense of smell thing, but I do have the burning, I get it on the right side, it often happens in the cold, and my eye begins to stream, it has been there for years. long before the TN/GN, started somehow I am sure there is a connection, but what or how, I can not answer.x x x

With migraines, I sometimes smell strange odors. I also get a hyper-acute sense of smell. I don't know if it is related to the Trigeminal nerve or if it is all in the brain. In my case, I kind of think it is a brain thing, a type of aura.

If it persists, check with your doctor to see if it is your meds or something else.
