View Full Version : So my jumping is a problem...

As I've mentioned before, I jump. A lot. Sometimes I don't really even think about it until I'm doing it, sometimes I do think about it before I do, and either jump or suppress.

So I'm at the boat, and, nothing new, I start jumping in the cockpit. I'll jump in the cockpit, or down below. All of a sudden, my dad goes: "Would you quit jumping? You'll loosen up all the screws in the floor." I asked him for tips on what I should do if I get the urge to jump. His response: "Uhhhh, don't jump?" I asked if the dock would be a better place to jump. He said if the urge to jump is that bad, he guessed it wasn't that big of a deal, but I don't want to jump myself into the bilge because I've unscrewed the floor with all my jumping...

I guess that's one more thing I should be suppressing. Perhaps my urge to jump isn't overly strong, compared to what it could be, but it would take energy to suppress that I could be using on things that are more important to suppress (like meltdowns, those would be more important to suppress). I will admit, if my dad's not around, I haven't really put too much energy into suppressing. Though if I've thought about it before hand, I have gone out onto the dock a couple times to do my jumping.

Anyone have any tips on what I should do on the boat, instead of jumping, that won't unscrew the floor?

What does your jumping do for you? I'm guessing its partly the movement and partly the "jarring" of your legs as they hit the floor. I'm wondering if there's a replacement that would do the same things for you? It also occurs to me that Mother's Heart or Grimey may be able to help you with this more than I can, they seem to know more about it.

Not exactly sure what you meant by jarring of my legs, but I think there is something about what happens upon impact that I get from it. Probably has to do with movement as well. I've always been somewhat 'movement' oriented, in elementary school, I remember every recess the only thing I would do just about was swing. I'm also a big rocker, if I'm in a chair that rocks I'll really subject it to some abuse. lol And if I'm standing, and it wouldn't look odd, sometimes I'll kind of sway from side to side. So I do think I'm movement oriented.

But I do think what happens on impact (jarring?) is something I get from jumping but nothing else.

Yes, that's what I meant by Jarring- wasn't sure how to say it. Allie doesn't do much swaying, but the jumping and swinging and rocking(even if its not a rocking chair) are her biggies. Have you ever tried one of those gynormous exercise balls? Allie does some amazing and very scary things with those.

You might want to do a bit research on the vestibular and proprioceptive systems. You could find some solutions there.
