Can I be charged for a handicap parking spot

Hello,

I work in a faith-based private school where I teach in the after-school program. For a number of years, I have been parking in the handicap parking spot in the parking garage. Can they reassign the spot and legally, can they charge me a fee to use the spot?

It really depends on the state and if you have a disability. In Illnois I know you need to go to your local DMV and fill out the form for the spot usually there is no fee, but you get a sticker. The rationale behind a handicap parking space is that its a federal requirement. There are soppused to be at least two handicap parking spots in the parking lot. This is strictly mandated by the ADA. I am not sure about reassignment since in IL its on a first come first serve basis as long as you have the sticker.
