Thank you again for your responses and sharing your experiences. I just thought of a couple more questions, if I may pick your brain?

I remember reading somewhere that TN does not affect you when you sleep? My doctor today also mentioned this, which reminded me. I've had the crushing, boring cheekbone pain, and tooth pain that has woken me up from sleep. I can't remember the amount of times I've had to take Advil in the middle of the night to at least take the edge of the tooth pain.

Second, when the pain started last spring, I also had reduced, numb sensation in the left cheek. My worst pain has been in the right side. I knew the numbness had returned, but I was surprised to find that the whole left side of my face is numb... cheek, jaw, and forehead. I can still feel, but it is reduced, like there is a layer between the touch and the skin.

I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone in the TN pain happening at night/during sleep. I don't know if it is mainly the ATN crowd or not but many have said pains keep them up at night or last into the night. For me, mine is worse in the evening and at night/bedtime.
I don't get any numbness so I can't comment about that.
Welcome to the forum. Keep asking questions.

I also have trouble getting to sleep from the pain, and I have woken up at 3:00am or 4:00am with bad pain, and have had to medicate at that time. Mine is like Stephanie's, it worsens as the day progresses.
I have had transient numbness, but not the whole side, just the lip. Damage to the trigeminal branch can cause numbness.
Good luck,
Lily

I sometimes have a very hard time falling asleep as I can't find a comfortable position. Lying on my side makes my face hurt and when on my back, the twitch makes it almost impossible to stay on my back as it is very strong and hurts. If I lie on my side it keeps the twitch down. So, I toss and turn until I finally am so exhausted that I finally fall asleep.

I also tend to get migraine attacks at night which also sets off the nerves. Then I have pain all over my face and up into the top of my head. VERY painfull and makes it almost impossible to fall asleep. Bleah.

I sometimes have numbness on the my right jaw. It is just one other way the nerve reacts.

Count me in on the pain where you can't sleep and also the pain that wakes you from a dead sleep.
