i have just been lurking for a couple of weeks while i wait.......the anxioty is keeping my blood pressure up ;-)........they didn't believe the reading and went for another bp machine when i went in for an evaluation a ew weeks ago......i told the nurse that the high bp was all her fault.....i think she believed me for a second........:)

i live in colorado [and i can see that the state you live in probably makes a big difference in judgements and wait periods], i am 60 and just pretty much worn out [25 years repair man and welder and 10 heavy equipment]........

i went down in 1998 with a number of problems, and was able to draw ltd until 02, i filed for ssd before the ltd ran out, but was turned down, i didn't appeal, because by that time i was just tired of the whole runaround.

i have been working as a janitor at a local church and getting by....but i'm getting to where i can't do all that is required of me and feel bad about it, so i applied for ssd in early april...

the colorado ddc has given me the ok and sent my records back to ss for their ok [i hope]..........and i am waiting for the mailman....like so many here are doing........it will be five months the first of sept.

i really can't remember what i put down for an onset date, so that will be a surprise......they could go back to 02 when the ltd dropped me off???......i haven't had any "gainfull employment" since then..??

oh well, i just wanted to say HELLO .........

Don...........

Don, hello and welcome to the boards. I just wanted to say be prepared in case they turn you down again. I hope you know the odds of winning on the initial application and the reconsideration phase. Many people have to fight it all the way to the ALJ stage. I personally fought for over 3 1/2 years. Hopefully you will win on the first attempt but if not try and hang in there!

hi hoosier, the ddc examiner, called a couple of times in a 2 week period and made her decisioin on august 7 [favorable] and sent it to the feds, at this point, i'm a little confused as to wether it is just bieng checked for errors [that's what i thought that i understood from a person at my local ss office?] or that it will be scutinized again??

i am fairly confident..........that i will be ok??........at sixty years old and a pretty broken and worn out body......

if they turn me down, i have a good lawyer in town [childhood friend] that specializes in ss cases and has done well for all of the old schoolmates...

i probably should have appealed the first time in 02, but i was just very tired of the constant battle with the ltd, .......when ss turned me down and ltd [unum] shut me off, i figured i lost the battle and just found what ever job i could get....[nothing considered "gainfull"...........we were very lucky that our house was paid off and we had no bills.......

like so many other boomers, i lost about 40% of my ira in the recent past. at 59 1/2 i had planned on drawing 10% for income untill i turned 62 than draw my ss.....
now i can only draw enough out of my ira to pay for my medical insurance [and i am very thankfull for that]......i sure hope the politicians can get together and figure a better way on the health ins for all of us......

this ssd thing seems that there are soooooo many variables involved in each case that it would be impossible make any predictions......sooo we just wait for the mailman.. and check our checking accounts three times a day!! ;-)
