I seldom post so much reading, it's very relevant. Some of us will find answers here, if, you can find a good neuro to work with.
Last, look up Autism and Brain SPECT and you get U-Tube videos.

I have been fighting this fight all Allie's life...Doctor's who do not recognize that the autism label is just a desciptor of symptoms, not a diagnosis of what is wrong. Its like calling a broken leg "bruising and swelling syndrome" and saying people with this syndrome often have trouble walking. Good-bye and good luck with that!

LOL, that is so true, more true then you would believe, it happened to me, to my arm, I broke it in a bicycle crash, went to the hospital, they took x-rays, the doctor didnt even look at the x-rays, said it was just bruising and swelling just from looking at my arm, then sent me on my way. It was like over a week later when the hospital called me, left a message on the answering machine that someone was looking over the x-ray and happened to notice that my arm was broken  but by this time it was pretty much to late to do anything.
Then they charge me hundreds of dollars for x-rays and er visit, and they were only worried about getting there money  nothing like being scamed out of your money by the hospital
SOOO, the ONLY way doctors are going to do those 'extra' tests for autism dx, is if they are going to make money off of it. It is such a rare thing to find a doctor who cares about his patients more then money, they base everything on how much money they can make. Sure there are good doctors who care about there patients more, just good luck finding one

Yes, the word autism really doesn't tell you squat.
It's so cool, currrently our consultant goes to the neuro who ALWAYS first gives his asd kids a brain scan. In the scan, he can see where the blood/oxygen flow is too low (or even too high) so he can properly treat the child. I want Vince to go soooooo bad, now that I'm aware of a doctor that actually does this. And, our consultant will go with so she can actually SEE what is going on in her client (your childs) brain!!!
This neuro can show where adhd is happening, where depression is happening. Our consultant has seen incredible and rapid changes in the kids that see him.
I have to just figure out the initial $4,000 cost, and, it's not in our state so I have no idea if his medical card pays anything but I doubt it. I'll have to see what if any reimbursement our crappy insurance gives. I'll have to (last resort) get a cash advance. I really really really really want this done for Vince.
Can you imagine seeing the blood flow in your child's brain? I mean, what if a lack of blood flow in the MNS (you remember the mirror neuron system stuff) results in lack of neurological development (aka neurological asthma) which causes autism? I mean that's a real vague description of what I'm thinking. And, since adhd is way more Vincent's problem at the moment (it's driving me to tears, I dunno what else to do but put him back on meds...he alienates every child that tries to be his friend which makes him miserable so it guts me). Ok anyhow, lack of bloodflow aka oxygen in a certain part of the brain would TOTALLY explain adhd and why speed works.
Vince cannot tell a story, if you ask him "So what did you do today?" he absolutely cannot answer, he knows what happened he can see it all, but trying to retell including sequencing it all...well Peg you met him, you see how he has to keep conversation in the present and basic. Even though he has intriquate feelings and thoughts, the words don't come...dunno if that's Broca's or Wernekie's area of the brain, I forget which is expressive.
Anyhow I'm psyched. This just makes sense. It hurts too, I started this autism journey at the neuro, ruled out Landau Kleffners and thought that was all the neuro could do for me so went too biomedical, gfcf, you know how it is. You try everything, leave no stone unturned.
The RDI makes sense and is working, I still swear by it, however, if there is a part of his brain with reduced blood flow that needs to be dx'd and treated so the RDI can continue to work. Know what I mean?
Think about it, imagine seeing Allie's blood flow in her brain, seeing the areas that are perhaps not getting the blood it should.
I can't stop thinking about it. I need 4 grand :D . Can't hardly wait till tax time. I will try to see if any neuro will do this out here, but, I'd have to present them with symptoms that would make them thing a brain scan is necessary...autism will likely not be reason enough for them.
For all I know, Vince could have some seizure disorder of some kind explaining his communication problems. I'm not saying I think he does, but I don't want to rule it out based on a 24 hour sleep study done like 8 years ago before puberty. I'm just very enthusiastic about all this, I never considered the concept of normal blood flow being interrupted in parts of the brain.
