View Full Version : Medicines to make it stop?

or at least not be so...frequent...

For the past 2 days I've probably spent more time in the bathroom than I have doing anything else. I've even started taking my laptop in there with me to keep from getting too bored just sitting there.

Is there a medicine a doctor can give me to make things go back to normal?

I'm guessing it's a UTI....I'm worried tho that this is a symptom of a possible health problem. (I've had Optic Neuritis since august, and numbness in my hip since April)

For the past 2 days my right foot has been seriously cold and has had a burning feeling...plus my ankle is swollen.

I tried drinking cranberry juice, but all that's done for me is make me have to pee more.

I know this is a bad thing to do, but I've cut down on my liquids just so I wont have to pee 2 minutes after I drink some water.

I'm just tired of spending all my time in the bathroom...especially with christmas coming up.

Hi Erin,
I'm sorry to read you're having such problems.
You really need to go to a doctor and get checked in case you do have a urinary tract infection, because if left untreated it can travel to the kidney and can sometimes cause very serious health conditions throughout the whole body. It can happen very fast. I'm not meaning to scare you, it's just that this happened to my daughter a few months ago.
Take care there, Erin, and please get that checked asap.
Let us know how you got on.

I havent had it checked yet, but I have a pretty good idea what's causing it.

I think it's neurological in origin. It comes and goes. The other day it was every 5 or 10 minutes (or less) and yesterday things seemed normal. Today it's been about every hour or every couple of hours, with a few hours of every 20 minutes.

I have a very big suspicion that I've developed mutiple sclerosis. I still need to get it diagnosed tho. (doctors keep telling me to wait till a new symptom crops up, and I think the potty problem could be the new symptom they were waiting for) I've been having some pretty freaky neurological pain (tingling cold sensation, and a burning sensation) in my right foot the past few days too.

That and the optic neuritis I've had since August and the numbness in my thigh and hip are leading me to believe that the doctors will diagnose me soon. I really really really really really really really really really hope that I'm wrong about this.

i was paralyzed by ms, so i have no bladder control at all
the doc gave me oxybutynin. 5mg before bed and when i wake up and im good to go
i understand that its not the same thing, but its all i can think of :)
or maybe a foley cath?
my doc also told me that cranberry juice protects mostly against UTIs by lining the inside of the bladder. she suggested taking em in pill form though.

oh hey sorry i didnt read that last post of yours. i hope its not ms either. kinda sucks.
but hey, theres always room on the ms forum. you can also find out a lot of information from people who have been in diagnosis limbo. they can give some pointers.

I do get UTIs, but I also have a neurological condition from spinal damage, that mimics that same pain so it's very hard for me to tell. I've been having a hard time getting an answer lately as to whether I have an infection are not. My doctor look at my urine test and said it's not a bladder or urological infection but it might be some other action, which is quite possible as I recently had a dental infection. Urologist told me that I do have an infection and it's very hard to culture and to take cranberry juice but by now I've been on cranberry juice for two weeks and this other stuff, but perhaps making it worse by putting topical numbing creams, which might not be a good idea when you have an infection in my trap it, but at that point I thought I didn't have one.

So I have a lot of sympathy for what you're going through, not knowing exactly what's going on with this particular pain. You do need a urine test. You could have MS or something like that and an infection.

For the pain Phenazopyridine Hydrochloride- it's over-the-counter, by a company called AZO.

For a urinary infection, you might try this instead of cranberries: D Mannose. Its the sugar that is in cranberries and is apparently stronger. It comes in powder and capsules. Usually you just take half a teaspoon to a teaspoon once a day but if you have an infection, you can take half a teaspoon to a teaspoon every two hours, except when sleeping. The next day every three hours (up to five doses) and gradually down to one serving a day. It may take up to three days.

Erin,
You might want to have an MRI of your back because there is a type of cyst which can cause bladder pain/symtoms. I think it is called Tarlov cyst. They are hard to find at times.

I think my cousin has one of those cysts (she's adopted, so it's not part of our family's medical history) Her cyst just ruptured yesterday.

As for me, the first post in this thread was written by me a long time ago, but I am having problems again. I've been having problems all week with dribbling urine. I had 2 UA's that showed no infection.

Last night I was about to go nuts...my dad suggested that I talk to my aunt. She's a nurse practitioner (and the mom to my cousin with the cyst) My aunt actually suggested that I use a yeast infection treatment. Since the area down there where I've been leaking was getting a bit...irritated.

Luckily I had a box of that stuff. So, this morning I'm surprised that I actually feel better. Makes me wonder if I have a yeast infection instead of some weird neurological problem with peeing. I actually hope it is a yeast infection, since I can take care of that myself with the tubes of goo that I have...and the fact that yeast infections are not caused by weird neurological conditions and can be treated a heck of a lot easier.

I have nerve damage at L5-S1 which has caused decreased sensation "down yonder" and I have always had a propensity for UTIs. I also have a reoccurring problem with yeast. To complicate matters, I have the dribbles along with frequent urination. Sanitary pads and pull up cause inflamation regardless of how often I change. Whew!!!!!

I drink a gallon of water/herbal tea each day to keep the bladder well flushed. I season my tea with a capsule of cranberry which means I consume at least four a day. This keeps infection at bay. Nine times out of ten, when I have UTI symptoms, the problem is yeast so I keep a tube of OTC creme and a box of Phenazopyradine Hydrocloride on hand at all times. When I have a yeast flare, there is no discharge, just inflamation and UTI like symptoms. If there is any obvious yeast symptoms, it is thrush.

Since candiddas begins in the gut, I try to watch my diet and avoid sugar and carbs. My kids are coming up for my 60th birthday this weekend. I WILL have all of the birthday cake and icecream that I want, dang it. I am prepared for the flare so I plan on enjoying myself. Lol!!!!
