This is a warning. The website, for National Peripheral Neuropathy Community (NPNC) has been hacked. I just clicked on my usual favorites and a black screen with arabic or whatever writing and something about Alah. I'm not going back there. I'm afraid of harming my computer.
They had a hacking a little while ago and it looks like it is happening again.
I've got to do a clean up on the computer if I can figure it out.

Billye,
I find this very weird because I received a suspicious email the other day, that I deleted without opening. It was from NPNC.org, which at first I did not recognize. I only joined to post once or twice after the big crash, so I am on their registration list, but not a place I ever go. Anyway, where you can see the first few lines of the email content it said something about this email being sent from the administrator of "hacked by kilinc" or some such thing. I had written down what I could see before I hit the delete button
A few days later, I got another email from NPNC.org that said it was from the administrator of NPNC (National Peripheral Neuropathy Community), and then I recognized NPNC and that one seemed to be a legitimate email.
Anyone else get the weird email with "hacked by kilinc"?
Cara
btw...I was also having some problems with my virus scanner looking turned off. I ran the scan, and found three infections. I can't even remember which ones they were, but I got rid of them. I have no idea if any of this is related or not, but the Internet can be a weird place!
Yes I did get the e-mail from Gail. I recognized the name and knew it was legit and opened it. In it she told us that it had been hacked and they were working on it. I've been so busy since my daughter has been ill and it has resulted in getting to us all one by one, all the stress I guess, so I had not been back for a while as it has been so hectic. I love that site and the people. A lot are on some if not all the other pn sites and are all good and gracious about helping others, just like here. A great place to be a member and you never can have too many places to meet friends. ;)

I immediately 'e'mailed Jeannie. She was on the ball and said it was being worked on..In 3 days the 'evil' was gone. Maybe it's just catching up with you?
I'm getting a few extra junk 'e' mails, but 'tis the holidays and I'm thinking it was more likely a result from orders at Wal-mart and Land's End than NPNC. Nothing out of hand that I can't zap out of my 'puter-land right away.
Smart folks run these boards, I'm less worried here than at Wal-Mart...truly! - j
Yes - the NPNC site has been hacked again - this time it's all in Arabic. Gail will be restoring it soon. This is the 3rd time in about as many weeks. We have no idea why or who is doing this. I'm also a member of a New Zealand site and some of the members there said they are aware of many sites being hacked in that part of the world so guess this is a world-wide problem.
It's a shame that those with the knowledge to hack can't or won't use that talent/skill to do something useful, but, the world is full of shitheads. Excuse the language but that's probably the most accurate and descriptive word for them.
For Silverlady: Going back to the NPNC site will not harm your computer...the hack-job is not contagious.

and YEP it's got some disease- the kind that's from sick or poisoned minds, not OUR kind of illness. At least, if they had our issues, they could blame it on their meds!
Thanks Dan for keeping us all alert. When my DH gets home from work, it'll be 'clean-up' time on the ol' 'puter! He won't show me how to do it, should anything ever go wrong, I could be in trouble and have to pay 'nerds-on-call' or the like, as I've my own resident expert.
Seems like other sites are affected as well. Humm.... Can we really REALLY Call GHOSTBUSTERS? Don't you wish!?!
We can and do have alternatives, for that at this time of year, well, may HOPE, HEALTH [improvements], and LOTS OF HAPPINESS COME YOUR WAY....as well as more than a few pain-free moments!!!!
Good thoughts to all, ever and always! - j

Billye, Dahlek: Are you able to get on to Brain Talks 2.
All I get is "Page cannot be displayed"
What on earth is going on.
What a bummer!!!!

I believe I comes from Cats: 'Life is Hard, then you NAP!' Don't panic....it's a plan!
The folks who run these things are pros and will fix it, and soon.
We can get somewhere we can communicate when we need to. THAT is the important thing. Leave all other issues you cannot control to those experts.
Hugs and good thoughts - j
