I've finally been able to sign up and make posts. It was a little hairy there for a couple of days as for some reason or another, I was not receiving my confirmation/registration emails at the email address I gave. Strange as it was, I finally figured out another way ;)
Now to the reason I'm here. My youngest daughter (24) is in the process of being dx'd with a brain cyst. Naturally, this is very unnerving, especially since I lost my mom 25 years ago to brain cancer. I know that the 2 are different entities, but it's unnerving just the same.
I'm reading a lot here and learning a lot. I want to thank all of you for posting so that myself and others can learn and grow from your experiences.
I hope that I can make a difference here too. I'm a very supportive personality and who doesn't need support now and again in their lives eh? I look forward to meeting and chatting with everyone.
I wish all of you well on your journeys to better health!:)

((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))). How scary for you and your daughter. :(
There are forums for a few different types of cysts here, so as soon as you find out what type it is, you can find hands-on support here re specifics you need to know.
I'm sure you know, too, that technology for treating cysts and tumors has changed tremendously since your mom was sick, so there is a great deal of help and hope for your daughter. :) You have every reason to believe she can live a good life in spite of it. Make sure to get a neurosurgeon you trust, and never be afraid to ask anything.
Good luck, and please let me know what you find out. :)

Hi Lizard!
Thanks for responding to my post. I surely do realize things are way different than they were 25 years ago...thank goodnes :D
I'm very anxious to find out the results and get moving on getting her better. She goes for another MRI on Thursday, so hopefully we'll get results next week.
I have noticed that there is not a whole lot of information regarding brain cysts on the net. There is some, and of course a lot of it is medical lingo so I'm not really understanding much of it. I do look things up when I have a chance and try to learn. Here at the forums, I've been reading a lot and learning a lot...so that's all good :D
Take care, and again thanks!

Hi! Sorry to hear the news about your daughter. It must be scary after losing your mom to brain cancer. My daughter is a brain tumor survivor - seven years out from chemo!
I just wanted to tell you that I understand that the American Brain Tumor Association has a new BT primer that includes some very good information on cysts in addition to tumors, so you might want to check that out.

keep us posted on how she is doing (and how you are doing, too!)

Thanks, hon'. :)
Yeah, they do. :) There's something in it for me, too. I get friends, and I feel good knowing I have helped someone avoid the confusion and fear I went through for 23 years.

Not sure where to post this. My daughter was taken off prozac without being weened off. two days later she had a headache then a flash of light made her start to have seizure like movements I was told it was serotonin withdraw and to start her back on prozac and ween her off. two weeks after that she still has problems whenever lights would flash she would spasm on the left side and have a sharp pain above the right eye. she had an eeg done but no seizure activity even though she did spasm

Wow...:( I'm so sorry to hear this. Why on Earth was she abruptly taken off the Prozac??
I can tell you that EEGs can lie. I have had many, many, many, and they were abnormal for years when I had no apparent sz activity, and then a 24-hour EEG was clean as a whistle. I then had six grand mals in 2 years. :( EEGs are used as a diagnostic tool, but the main thing (if you gain any insight from them at all) is to look for any improvement over time. It seems obvious to me that flashing lights are a trigger for her. (There is normally a brief strobe phase during an EEG. No activity noted then?? )
Also, what type of EEG has she had? Just the standard 20-min? I'm thinkin' a video EEG or longer monitoring may help, particularly one whewre she is exposed to more episodes of flashing lights.
The sharp pain above or in the eye is a classic what's called post-ictal ("after-seizure") effect. I get them every time, even with small simple partials (which I had all day yesterday :o ).
Please come to the epilepsy forum here:

I know you'll get some great input from experienced folks.

Thanks for the information. I don't know why this psychiatrist just stopped it. We talked about her coming off of it and he said don't give it to her anymore I even asked again "you mean just stop it" I thought it strange because other psychiatrists weened her off meds. He said their were no side effects and the prozac would be out of her system in 5 days.In 4 days the spasms started a flash of light while we were watching a play.
Yes it was a 20 minute EEG and it didn't show anything even when she spasmed during the strobe light part. I'll go to the forum thanks again.

*UPDATE*
To all of you who so kindly responded to my first post and wanted an update. I went to the dr's with my daughter today and found out she has a pineal cyst about 9mm in size. She is being referred to a neuro in the next week or two for followup.
Any information you may all have regarding pineal cysts will be greatly appreciated! Thanks for all your help and support.

Hi Khamcam,
Thank you for the update on your daughter. I have been checking to see if there was anymore progress on this situation.
I will say a prayer for your daughter if you don't mind.
I hope everything will be OK for her and your family.
Please keep us posted.

A neurosurgeon, right? I just want to make sure. A neurologist won't be able to help.
Good luck, and please keep us posted!
