This is the third day now that I have had this thumping sound in my left ear, and it is DRIVING ME CRAZY
Does anyone know what causes this?
I feel like a tightness in there, but I cant really say were the tightness is, and it is like my ear drum will spasm with a fluttering thumping sound. It will start up, and then I think it went away, then THUMP THUMP THUMP

Hey RR.
Possible you've got a Middle Ear infection with fluid build-up in the middle ear (behind the eardrum) causing the eardrum to bulge and also possibly the thumping is your pulse, from a capillary near the eardrum.

I am hoping it just goes away, it does not hurt or anything, just driving me crazy.
If it is a ear infection and it starts to hurt what do you do for a ear infection? does a ear infection just go away on its own, or is it something to worry about

I go to the doctor for ear infections to get an antibiotic. But, if your immune system is functioning okay, you should be able to clear it yourself, though not as quickly. But, you risk complications that way and it could get worse and cause some real damage.
I looked a bit on the net for ear thumping...seems it could be an air pressure or blood pressure issue. Or a muscle spasm in your ear. I wonder if your eustacian tubes are blocked? How are your wisdom teeth? swelling in the back of your mouth (like from wisdom tooth pressure) could pinch off your eustacian tube causing fluid and pressure to build up in your ear.

okay, it is more like a muscle spasm, because it is a bunch of quick thumps, not like your heart beating thump (I know my heart rate is not going that fast, my resting is around 50bpm, and this thump is going like 180bpm when it is thumping)
ANYWAY, I think I might have figured out what it is, remember I said about getting a mouth night guard for teeth cleanching/grinding, well I have been using that at night, and I am not so sure if it fits proper, so that might be what is causing it?
I had some major problems to begin with, with my teeth not touching, then I had all my wisdom teeth out, and I had major problems from it, because the person cut the nerves that caused me to loose feeling in my tounge, but anyway, to make a long story short I have had/have some problems with my mouth/jaw/teeth, so if these could be related to the ear thumping, that might be what is causing it, maybe I should ditch the night gaurd at night and see if it gets better

That sounds like it could be it.

I have had that a bunch of times. Worst of it is when it ticks against my pillow (and sometimes on to my headboard).
I think its my pulse beating against a thin layer of wax, like a tiny drum. But its probably a tiny bit of water.
I would tell you what I do to get rid of it.... but people like me will yell at me for telling you.

Keggy... Are you sure that's just from wax or water? I got that horrible loud ear-heartbeat-on-the-pillow thing when my blood pressure was too high.

yeah. I am sure. I have very low bp and I candle my ear to rid the was, and the noise. Its not horribly loud, just ticking.
Ever tell you about when my nose beeps? Now that is weird:rolleyes:

was not so much a ticking noise, was more a thumping, like someone beating a drum next to my ear
It has pretty much gone away now, thankfully, but it is now slightly sore in and around my ear, like it would have been a muscle or something, not that bad though. I can deal with it, but I am not sure how much longer I could have handeld the thumping
