so we finally went to doc again and looks like 3 nights of enemas along with Miralax everyday and if things haven't changed in 2 weeks at the most then we get xrays and see a specialist.
2 nights ago the kid is so excited he had a bowel movement, he is yelling from the bathroom, he says he felt it in his belly, lower abdomen lol, and he pushed and started sweating and pushed some more and he says it must be huge :rolleyes:. We look and there are two little marbles in the toilet. So I played it up, good job, but he felt it and worked it lol so it was worth an honorable mention.
Poor guy wanted to cry when the doc said 3 days of enemas, I wanted to cry.

Oh Chris, I feel so bad for little shortcake! Have you tried castor oil? Old time remedy but then the older we get the more wisdom we see in regular household stuff. I sure pray there's not some kind of obstruction that will need attention.
((((hugs Shortcake & mommy)))))

Yeah the doc mentioned castor oil next if the miralax didn't seem to be doing it. Blech!! How the heck do you wash that down?
This really seems to me that this whole process can cause some kind of psychological damage or something or other. I don't know. He fully understands what is happening. We have been kind and patient. Not condescending. I really hope this takes care of it and it is not something that is psychological from all the stuff that has been happening at home. Just what I need is to screw up another kid.

Chris!! NOW PAY ATTENTION-YOU DID NOT SCREW UP EITHER KID!! You can actually insert some castor oil(use a glove) and that might do the trick. Better alternative than an enema I think. As for drinking the stuff? Well first ya need to know the proper dosage, then I'd just gag it down & have something yummy handy to eat afterward.
Good luck! And I also hope this won't cause any emotional turmoil. Poor kid deserves to live a normal life afterall......make sure he eats alot of fresh fruit & veggies too.

Phew night one made it through. Did some crying but this time I managed to find the kid size instead of using a little less than half of an adult size and things went smoother. No pain in the belly really.
Thank you Pati. Not many veggies, and must be raw but lots of all kinds of fruits. You know, I had read somewhere once that if you eat enough diverse kinds of fruits often enough in your day that you can get the same vitamins that you would get if eating veggies too. I wish I could remember where I read it.
Have you tried prune juice?

I can't speak for what is appropriate for a child, so please keep that in mind. I had the same issue for whatever reason and no type of laxative worked, even enemas would not work sometimes. Would just make me crampy.
I would go 10 days without sometimes. It was just horrible. Just horrible.
For the last year or 2, 2 things have worked for well for me, a herbal laxative that can be in a tea or a pill, called Swiss Kriss. I only need this occasionally, like when I travel.
On a daily basis, I take magnesium (a supplement/vitamin/mineral in pill form). That has worked wonders. It relaxes the intestines as well as one's muscles generally. Apparently, we don't get the magnesium we need from our food anymore as most food is grown in mineral depleted soil.
Just some ideas to run by your child's doctors.

The specialist that my oldest is seeing made him start taking Magnesium and I had forgotten what he told me as to why. You just reminded me Smithc, the only problem we had was that the dose that he wanted him at was 500 mg (?) but it gave him uncontrollable diarrhea so we had to cut it in half. HA! Thanks!
Prune juice we haven't tried. I have thought about those new prunes in their own little wraps that they advertise on tv. He might go for that. I have done the prune juice while I was pregnant, lol, blech, though I would never say that to him.

My dd eats those prunes in their own little wraps. We call them dried plums, or big raisins. All in a name.
On the magnesium pills, one option is to have him take some in the am and some in the night. That is what I do, when I remember. Also, someone I respect told me it is better to get the capsules than the pills for some reason.
The pills come in various doses. Just that fact that the large dose gave your son the runs is actually a good sign that it could work for him.
Edited to add: I think you can make killer brownies w/prune juice too but I am not sure what dietary restrictions your son has.

Those little prunes on TV ads are a good idea-what kid could resist? Also want to point out mag, tabs are rather large if I recall? I'd cut them in half. And he must get some exercise! Have him walk the dog, ferrets or something. Do games with the Wii thingy. No different than a dog, exercise gets the system going!
Hope he gets better soon! And remember an apple & a banana a day you can't go wrong.Plus he MUST drink water, that doesn't mean soda, juice or anything else-pure good old H2o.

Sit ups always really help me. Gets it moving down there.

We are kinda talkin two kids here. My oldest is taking the magnesium to try to help with his chronic pain condition and he is the one who got diarrhea from it. He wouldn't touch a prune with a ten foot pole in your hand lol.
Now my little guy I can do the 'giant plum' thing. Going to the store tomorrow and getting some. The brownie thing reminds me, I just got a book out of the library on how to slip healthy foods into your families diets without them knowing by using purees and just adding them to the sauces or mixes. Each one depends on what you are making. Not to stop trying at the dinner table but when they snub their noses at the broccoli they will never know about the turnip puree in the sauce of the spaghetti the next night lol. Very interesting. My little man doesn't have any dietary restrictions. We have done the whole food allergy thing and he has none.
