View Full Version : wheelchair cushion with a FAN!!
If you are a full time wheelchair user, you will appreciate this product. A wheelchair cushion with a FAN!!!
I wanted to share my satisfaction with this cushion in case you too might be interested
I am a full time wheelchair user due to MS and have been using one of these cushions for several months now. I am extremely pleased with its ability to greatly reduce moisture from my bum. (It is very comfortable as well.)

 I have been to the site and while the concept of putting a fan in a cushion is good and it probably does fill a need, the pressure maps bring to lighta very serious issue. The pressure reduction of the fan cushion is better than the other cushions used for comparison but the interface pressure of the fan cushion under both ischials is still up in the 90 to 100 mmHg range. This is a problem for sitting for any length of time because studies have shown that prolonged exposure with interface pressures greater than 32 mmHg will lead to capillary occlusion, and that means pressure sores.
A roho high profile will most certainly pressure map far better than this fan cushion and in my opinion a warm butt free of pressure sores is better than a cool but with pressure sores. I would much rather be on an inflated cushion anyway and it appears that this fan cushion is foam or gel.

Wheeler9 can you explain to me what a roho cushion is please. My drug plan covers roho cushions, but I've never been able to find out what one is. I don't use a wheelchair, but I have so much pain sitting for even a short time. At work I use a cushion that is made of memory foam with a gel insert. It's pretty good, but I'd like to be able to get some kind of cushion for my own use.

I had a roho and it wasn't any good for me, had baffles of air and when it broke I just never got around to getting it repaired. :p I have a xynergy simplicity and it works a lot better then the bare foan I had before. :)

Baffles doesn't sound good to me. Any kind of wrinkle, seam etc. hurts, so I need a smooth surface. So much for using my drug plan. I guess one day I should call them and see if they cover different styles.
Thanks for the info!

Glad to help, I really never liked the roho I had and I doubt they've gotten any better. I got it from a recommendation from someone else but I wish I hadn't since you have to wait three years between new cushion purchases. Good luck finding one that will work for you. :)

Mimzee,
You might want to post this on the Chronic pain or Spinal Disorder Forums. There is a wealth of info and wonderful people going thru the same issues as you are having.
Hope to see you there,
Kathy
