View Full Version : Methadone brands v Methadose
Will someone take the time to explain (once again, I know it has been discussed before) Methadone verses the Methadose breakdown? I am trying so hard to cut down on my pain medication especially since my daughter’s problems with her pancreatitis and I saw what medicine could do to an unhealthy person. When I went to the pharmacy the last time I asked could they give me the methadone and not the methadose. I got some song and dance about they couldn’t get it. I had explained the above to them but that just still got me the you are a druggie look. Of course when they got on computer, well yes they could get it but seems like my prescription was written wrong and what I was asking for was for a two month supply, not one! So I just politely said, give it back to me the doctor’s computers were down and I don’t doubt for a minute it was written incorrectly. I’m not arguing with the pharmacy people. I dumb, not stupid, lol.
But I do want to get all I can out of what I do take so could someone explain which is the best in simple English, please? I’m sure when I take back my prescription the doctor will put whichever brand I ask for. I always tell him to NOT ever get himself in trouble over my prescriptions. I had a hard enough time finding him, lol.
methadose is cheaper, as i t should be,,,,does that answer your question?? lol
opiates, in general, are not too hard on the body....many other drugs are much worse
Thanks pab
Oh Yeah, I know it is cheap, dirt cheap, lol. But I'm was aiming for the one that had just a little bit of edge strength wise since I am cutting back quite a lot. Anyone else knows the difference? I know it is the weekend, etc. but I'm a patient person and don’t mind waiting. I just can’t remember when or who had this discussion before. I just know there is a slight difference with one brand being a bit stronger. Many thanks. Even with the name brand I’m pretty sure it is still going to be a lot cheaper than some other kinds of painkillers.

Joy,
Post this on the chronic pain forum. You may get more info.

Thank you. I wondered about doing that. I think it is an excellent idea and I'd get more people because of different types of pain. Not there there is not enough of us with PN. There is more than enough of us with PN! I'm counting myself as one to many in that group, lol...
joy!!!!! "you get what you pay for".....does that old saying ring a bell....

I have the problem of the pharamacy mixing methadone and methadose
in the same script.I have complained and requested just methadone only
because of shape and I think it works better than methadose. My pharmacist
tells me the stuff comes from same company and he has no control over it.
Is he feeding me a line?
You know I can't really be sure but after my telling them at pharmacy I did "not mind" waiting for them to try and get the Methadone, they did say they could get it! It was just that this time it was written improperly and I don't doubt it because the doctor did ask me how much I took because the computer WAS DOWN. When I go back to get the doctor to re-write it I think I'll ask if he can put no substitutions or something like that and see if that works. If it even helps just a little, I need it since even if I wasn't cutting down, it really does NOT last the 12 hours. I am beginning to understand that I have to keep a steady amount in my system because it seems it is just as easy to UNDERdo as OVERdo on the amount. And that it lasts in my system. Funny thing is - the only time they tested my urine - they said METHADONE DID NOT show up, lol. WOW! I'll post if anything happens different om my script.
stetson, yes he is feeding you a line....methadose is from malinkroft (sp) and the usual methadone comes from Roxanne (sp) on the "old" spinal forum, it was mentioned that methadose was once assayed at 80% strength.....I personally dont have that knowledge......but ......Also the pharmacst shouldnt be mixing production LOTS any way even with the same med. He may mean they come from the same supplier, if so THEY must be mixing them and maybe making extra money? same applies however, shouldnt be done

You know, Mrs. D is active on BT2 properly named Neuro Talk. It's the spin off of the Old BT. She might have more knowledge on this subject. I don't know that she checks this forum very often.

Thank you Billye. Someone on the chronic pain forum has been a tremendous help. I believe I am looking for the Roxanne brand. But I do wonder what would we all do without Mrs D and Rose and others that give so much of their time.
Also given time I will read everything I can get my hands upon and at some point try and see if I can get by on a lesser amount until perhaps something else will work. I just want to stay away from anything that will harm my liver and other vital parts (if possible and still be able to enjoy life just a tad). My pain management doctor sure did tell me why he did not like tylenol 3! He also said I would be on pain medication the rest of my life. I don't know why I'm trying to disprove him as I do value his opinion very much. BTW it was him that suggested I cut back on the Methadone and I have greatly.
