Jenelle's Mommy

Wow, I was beginning to think that we'd never get this place back! So glad to be here - thank you to John Lester for getting this place back up and running!
Well our house is busy. Work, Flu, Back to School. A lot of this you can get on Jenelle's Blog at http://www.jenellesjourney.blogspot.com
In true Paul fashion - a bullet point update! ;)
Back to School:
Jenelle's older brother Jack started Kindergarten in September. We have placed him in private Catholic school that is full day, and the same school where his child psychologist is on staff. This has been a blessing. The day after Back to School night, Jack had the "distinction" of being the first Kindergartner to be sent to the principal - he hit 3 kids! So as you can see, we are still dealing with his behavior issues. UCLA finally contacted us and Jack is going to be tested in a special study they have going on right now regarding ADD/ADHD/Autism & Bi-Polar syndrome. Brett and I were at UCLA on Wednesday being "interviewed" about Jack, and we seem to see some OCD like patterns. We return in 2 weeks with Jack to have him run through a battery of tests. Hopefully we'll have some answers, or we'll just figure out that Jack is typical & sensitive.
Jenelle is back to school in the same program as last year and is doing well. Her next IEP is at the end of November and I'm looking forward to it! :D I got a note home last week saying that she took independant steps in the gait trainer! How exciting! She seems happy back in her routine. (More on her health later.)
Work for me:
I've been super busy preparing a huge case going to trial in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, I work long hours to prepare, and then the court "continues" our date to a later one. We were supposed to start in May, and now we are ordered to return November 13. This hurry up and wait has not been fun.
My Health:
I am recovering from the flu! Seriously... I am the 3rd official diagnosed case in County! I'd been sick for 3 weeks and finally had some blood work done which revealed that I had an anti-body to the strain that they are predicting to hit this flu season. Get those shots early - they are predicting an early onset (obviously as in my case), with a long incubation (still waiting to see if Jenelle got it) and a lot of people being affected. In fact, my doctor told me to forget getting my shot now and to wait until December to hold me off till March! Ugh!
Jenelle's Health & Development:
Jenelle is doing FANTASTIC! She is doing so many amazing new things, its hard to now where to start! Jenelle has been showing a lot more awareness in the last few months. She is sitting up really well and on the move in her own way. As mentioned above, she is taking steps by her self in the walker/gait trainer, so at her IEP I'm going to inquire whether or not we can get one of our own at home. Unfortunately, she is also falling out of bed! This over 12 inch rails - ugh! I'm trying to get a Sleep Safe Bed ordered through insurance and just recently received all the paperwork from our doctor! Next I need to find a DME place to make the order!
Jenelle is also improving her eating skills. We've officially weaned her off the night time pump, and we're feeding her via bolus during the day and with oral foods at lunch. Her chewing skillls are not too improved, but she is showing an interest in her food including that she will lean over and bite the can of formula and/or bowl of food if we don't feed her fast enough! She also is learning to take sips from a straw a sports bottle! I'm so thankful, and am starting to think she may not need the G-tube forever!
SO many great things - here are some recent photos! Hope everyone is well. You have all been on my minds so much! Hugs! Kelly
I've attached a couple of recent photos of Jenelle (one of her getting an award at school) and of her brother at soccer with his cousin.
