I found this link the other day and thought I'd share. A board I read seems to have a troll and it's most bothersome!

Internet Trolls, A Guide (http://www.flayme.com/troll/)

Thank you Leaky, I had no knowledge that Trolls is what they are called though I do think we have had our share. I have jousted with just such a creature and my wounds have healed nicely.

Well hope you don't let the trolls keep you from BT! They can be ignored, seem to hang out in the domestic abuse forums for some reason.....we've tried to get them blocked but so far it's not working too well eh?

i am always suspicious a person is a "troll" when they always quote the previous post and answer every other post. this means they are probably bored that evening and want to see how many people they can fool and they are afraid some people might catch on after awhile, so they quote them to make their words stay put.

unfortunately, they give a bad name to somebody who actually does need a helping hand and quick.

so, just watch out for people who quote every post.

:eek:I think, we do, precisely, what they want, whenever, we let them
know, they're getting to us!!! We're giving them the attention, they
want, so, they don't stop!!! Why don't *we* stop giving *them*
what *they* want, so, they'll go away??????:D:D:D:D:D

I know what you mean Ponygirl. However, even when largely ignored, this particular troll keeps it up! What's frustrating is that apparently he's been turned in by numerous board members (myself included) and yet he's allowed to continue posting. He makes personal attacks against a few other board members, under the guise of disagreeing with their opinions. It's like a cancer that won't go away. The mods seem to put him in remission, but once the heat is off, he crops up again with snarky comments. It's just frustrating... frustrating that I feel lousy and uncomfortable posting because the drama that he incites, frustrating that the admins and mods don't appear to be doing anything more than slapping his hand, frustrating watching him and one other hijack threads as the go on the hunt ... it's frustrating. :(

Ah well, it feels good to get it off my chest a bit.

I am new here to this board, so I know not of whom you speak. Thank God.

My problem is that folks like that can get me so mad, I usually slam them as hard as I can which is usually pretty darn hard. Depending upon the troll's style, I can be as subtle as necessary.

I mean if the mods don't do anything why should the members not be allowed to stick up for themselves?

Sometimes it encourages them (as one OP posted earlier) but I think they should be at least called out for the losers they are.

Shoot, we are here coz we have med problems; we don't need any more!

Hopefully, I won't run into any such stinkers here soon. So far, so good!

Sincerely,

Smith

Ah but you never know if you have or not. They are insidious, they like to jump into a conversation that is controversial and muck about, usually they only post a couple of times. Sometimes they start a controversial thread and ask your opinion. Ignoring is the best advice.

OK, if I run across one, I will pm you ladies and make sure I am not being overly sensitive, and then I will put on ignore.

See you all on the board!
