View Full Version : OT - I was robbed

I am so upset! Some loser robbed my house the other night and what really burns me, is they stole my friend's brand new laptop that I was setting up for him. My daughter ran to the store about 11:15 or so in the evening and did not lock the door behind her as she was only going to be gone a few minutes.

We had the blinds open to let the cool air in as it had only been close to 100 degrees that day. I had a migraine and was trying to go to sleep in the back room. So in that 15 minutes, someone looked in, saw the laptop on the table and came right in and stole it.

I would feel better if they had stolen something of mine rather than his. Now I have to tell my friend his brand new computer is gone and of course I don't have renter's insurance.

It scares the heck out of me that someone came in while I was there. Something a lot worse could have happened. The police brought in their K-9 unit and the dog was able to track the guy a couple of blocks to the parking lot of a local restaurant, but they lost him there.

The police have the Serial number of the laptop so if they pick the idiot up for something else and run the serial number, we'll get the computer back. But that is a very slim chance.

I feel so violated and needless to say the door is locked at all times now. Sarah feels so bad but we've been living here for 12 years and never had any problems like this.

So my face is going off 'cause I'm so freaking stressed and the stupid migraine won't go away either.

I can't take much more of this kind of crap. Life needs to cut me a break once in a while.

Alli,
I am so sorry to hear this - it is a totally violating experience! What gives these folks a right to think that your (or your friend's) hard earned items are there for the taking? And to think that they came in while you were there!
We live in a "transitional" neighborhood - one with cute old houses that young couples bought up because they were affordable - and a number of my neighbors have been robbed. They can get in and out in seconds - cutting cables on the electronics rather than getting to the outlet - and computers are so valuable. What's worse, is all of the personal data that they contain - I am hoping that you hadn't had a chance yet to load any of that on. At least he can (possibly) be thankful for that. I have had a bad feeling for the last number of days, and have started to log off, which I often forget to do. Then at least my personal info is protected.
As soon as we became homeowners, we got a bog dog - something that we had wanted badly but couldn't, as renters. I swear that our 85lb lovebug was one of our best investments! She is a little scary looking - big and muscular - and people cross the street sometimes rather than pass her when we walk her. She is the most loving girl in the world, but I am certain (knock on wood) that she is a big reason that no one touches our place. Everyone knows where we/she lives, and often, it is kids on summer vacation that need spending money that are the most likely suspects (here, anyway).
I'd like to caution anyone that takes narcotics to keep them locked up, and if you recycle your med containers, make sure that there is NO way for anyone to tell what the bottle contained. Also, shred any info, like the leaflets that the pharmacies hand out, rather than just throwing them in the bin. People come through in the middle of the night and go through all of that stuff when it is at the curb.
Alli, I feel so bad that this happened to you - I wish that people weren't so awful, really. I can't understand the sense of entitlement that they have - or how they become so broken by life.
So sorry, hon....
Lily

Alli,
I am glad you are ok and that your daughter is ok too. I hope you both can feel safe in your home very soon. It is hard when the nights are so hot and you are so uncomfortable. I will be thinking of you.

Good advice Lily about taking the lables off the pill bottles. I always did that b/c I didn't want our names "out there"....now it will be so no one "out there" knows what we have in the house.
