Kyle has been having problems with increasing aggression that cycle to depression and than to normal regret. He has become harder to handle with each episode and has even threatened to hurt me and his sister. Rita has been hit a few times. Yesterday he flipped out and my sister and I took him to the hospital, he told them he was afraid that he would really loss it and hurt someone and needed help. Told them his medication was not working and he wanted a change. (I had been telling his doctor but she just wanted to keep upping the dose, I thought 20 mg of Ablify and 10 mg of Lexapro was too much and that it was bringing on the episode of aggression not stopping them, they would not listen to me. The Doctor at the ER listened to Kyle and has sent him to Rockford where they are adjusting his medication and trying to help him. They have taken him off of the Lexapro as of now and will evaluate the Ablify.

Rockford? Where are you? We're in Sterling.
Now that I have voiced my curiosity...
We are praying that Kyle gets the right dosage and starts feeling better.

Sorry to hear that things are tough for Kyle now. Prior to me joining the US Army, I worked for 6 years as a social worker at a residential treatment center for children with mental health issues. I hope that you are able to find some peace for Kyle and your family. Behavioral issues are so challenging and many times doctor's don't really pay attention to the child or parent and are quick to assume bad parenting or some other social factor.
I hope that Kyle does well on Abilify. I've seen children do well before with this medication. Just watch for the side effects and educate yourself on the med. My prayers are with you.
Take care...

I'm so sorry, ((((((Mary Evelyn)))))),
I've been through that with my own son.
It's good that Kyle was able to ask for help.
As Chris said, learn the side effects of any drugs that they give him. Have Kyle learn them too. Drugs can help a lot when they're the 'right' drug and they're used correctly.
Ask Kyle if he'd be interested in learning something like Tai Chi. A lot of the Oriental exercise or movement skills go a long way toward learning how to control your body and your responses. When I used to work, I went by The Boston Common (a huge open area in Downtown Boston; used to be for cow grazing hundreds of years ago) on the way to one of my jobs. The elderly Chinese men and women used to get out there real early and exercise. It's amazing to watch -- there's such a sense of peace around them.
Tell Kyle he's in my thoughts and my prayers. It *IS* possible to move away from that anger and rage. My son has. You learn about yourself and your reactions and your triggers -- most times he'll be able to predict what will set him off so he can divert.
Bless you all. Hugs and love.

((((((Kyle)))))),
I found the most incredible website today. You know how sometimes someone else has the words to explain EXACTLY what you've been looking for?? -- That's Paul Coelho.
Read this: Manual for Climbing Mountains (http://paulocoelhoblog.com/manual-for-climbing-mountains/)
Good luck on your journey, Kyle. Hugs.

We are definitly praying for Kyle.
My daughter, Sarah (14 with aspergers) takes Abilify. She is on 10mgs, it has made a wonderful difference. I am not sure how much longer we would have been able to keep her at home with out it. The agression and tantrums were horrible.
((hugs)) and again, many many prayers that they are able to figure out the best medication doses for him.

Kyle is now home. They took him off the Lexapro and lowered the dose of his Ablify from 20 to 15mg and he is taking it 10mg at night and 5mg in the AM within the month they want him down to 5mg at night and 5mg in the AM. I must say that he is behaving a lot better, no outburst but still early. The Doctor wants me to find another Dr. near here (the center he was at is 50 miles away) and not go back to the one we have been seeing.
