Here's my latest video, shot from my wheelchair mounted camera. It's a trip across Manhattan, in search of a statue dedicated to the great actress and humanitarian, Audrey Hepburn.
I hope everyone enjoys it...

Hey Mark,
I really enjoyed your video, but was disappointed in the statue. I agree that it kinda looks like a utensil.
The lack of curb cuts is pretty ridiculous, especially in a place like New York City. I need a strong drink after watching you venture out into the street like that!
Thanks,
Joan
P.S. My daughter's name is Audrey!

The lack of curb cuts really was ridiculous. I've never traveled via wheelchair crosstown like this before, so I don't know if this is typical, but if it is something really must be done.
Glad you enjoyed the video, and yes, the statue was very disappointing...

I just don't get the whole "pants falling down" look. Is that somehow supposed to be sexy? I guess I'm not in the demographic...

I watched the video and thought it was really cool Mark. I can't figure out how you are filming and winding your way through traffic and trying to get around the absent curb cuts, but you do a good job.
Like you I was disappointed in the Audrey Hepburn statue. I wanted a more sexy sophisticated looking lady, but the film was good. You sound as though you enjoy yourself in spite of everything.

Enjoyed your video! The curb problem is shameful.
How many miles do you get on your wheelchair? Have you ever run out of power because it seems like you are traveling quite a distance each time.

The camera is mounted on the arm of my wheelchair, so I don't really have to pay it much attention while I'm doing the driving. Here's an explanation of the camera set up:

Yes, the statue was pretty disappointing. That's probably why they have it hidden behind that column in the little park.
It's not easy, but I could do try to make the best of things. Might as well take advantage of whatever abilities I still have, while I still have them. It also helps to have a keen sense of the absurd...

Glad you like the videos. Hopefully, there will be many more to come...

Yes, the curb problem is unreal. I think I'm going to forward this video to the city, to see what can be done...

Depending on speed and terrain, I can go anywhere from 10 to 15 miles in the wheelchair. Manhattan is not really that big a place, so I've never been in danger of running out of juice. I can pretty much circumnavigate central Park in about 6 or seven miles, and getting from the Hudson to the East River is only about 3 miles, so I'd really have to make quite a journey to completely run out of gas...

Forwarding the video to the city is a great idea. A lot of people are affected by this lack of planning, including people pushing baby buggies as well as handicapped people.

Marc, I must reply while you are still on here. We are the late-night-people, or the night-owls? HOOT! Or are you an early riser?
That was a great ride to find Audrey's statue. Although it was just plain ugly, but I guess in the artist, and the eye of the beholder it must have been his/her vision. Truly Audrey was a beautiful person, in and out.
I think there is was a law about curbs being constructed in NYC. That they had to have cuts for those on any wheels. I would forward that video. Mr. B might air it on TV and use it as one of his third term campaign promises. LOL
As for those baggie, low-riding pants that is still in style for some people, I think:
1. They look like they have a dirty cloth diaper on, that needs changing.
2. If they had to run, like in an emergency, they would trip when their pants hit their ankles.
3. Putting their cell phone, IPod, wallet, keys, change, etc., would make them fall even lower and faster as they walk. No one wears a belt.
I hope the style changes. I guess they have some use when skate boarding or other sports that the younger folks need plenty of room to move in. Suspenders might work, ya think?
You did a marvelous job on that video, as you always do. You are so talented. :)
Thanks for sharing it with us. Hey, it wasn't raining! Nice work Marc.
