I had an old high school friend come over last week and brought a 7 yr old girl with her... Katie was almost as tall and twice as wide as her (SHE WAS SMALL FOR HER AGE... BUT still, SHE WAS 7!!)....then my oldest daughter came home and said how fat Katie was! Then Monday at the aug comm eval, the therapist asked how old she was. We said 3 and he was kinda befuddled and said she's big for 3!! Then I took her for a hair cut yesterday and the beautician asked how old she was... and knowing where the conversation was going and trying to head her off... I said she'll be 4 in August and then she replied WOW she's really big!!!! YIKES!!! LOL
She's not FAT!! She doesn't have fat rolls or what we call chortles (my oldest loves that word!!) Chortles are what we call flabby neck under the chin... which I DO have!! LOL She's just so thick around.. wide.
It's so weird because Jake's always been severely UNDERWEIGHT!

((Micky)) I agree with Paul! I bet with all the walking/tricycling she's doing now plus growth she will start to slim down anyway. Is Jake more spastic than Katie? could be that his extra spasms are burning all his calories and hers aren't. Do any of her meds have weight gain as a side effect?
Hugs - wide or not she's still GORGEOUS and impresses me every day! :D

Yeh, Jake is spastic AND has hundreds of myoclonic jerks a day. And Katie is more hypotonic if anything. Not sure what she is actually. She's not spastic. She is on depakote sprinkles too :) :)

And funny funny... my aunt came over today. She's a nurse. I haven't seen her since Katie was an infant. She came in and said wow! She's big for a 3 yr old! LOL

I can relate.
My ds....at one month labelled "Failure To Thrive"...yeah Right! By three months he'd figured out the eating thing and I got tired of hearing are you feeding him too much? He' too fat. Part of that was the low trunk tone but part of it was he was just created to grow more than the average little bear. I remember doing the "he's almost three years old" thing when he was two. I didn't say when...just almost three. THat seemed to work so well I kept trying it but it worked less and less as the years went by and the gap between height and age got more. The openeng conversation whenever someone first sees him (even if they see him frequently) is still "WOW! he's so tall! "and "How old is he?"
I see Katie and I don't see big or giant. I see beautiful!
