I am 55 yo and dx with enlarged ventricles last month. The ventricles are so enlarged that my corpus callosum is absent. My NS cannot perform a shunt for this reason and is amazed that I am functioning so well. Legal issue is that in 1980 (when I was a mere 26 yo) I had numbness in my lower extremeties and thought I was having a stroke. CT scan with and without contrast was done that showed marked enlargement of ventricles 1,2,3 and moderate enlargement of the 4thventricle. I was told that the CT scan was normal, no follow up was ordered and I was sent home thinking there was NO problem. Now @ 55yo I starting having gait and incontinence problems, had an MRI that showed Massively enlarged ventricles, absent corpus callosum and an enlarged cisterna magna. I am no longer a canidate for a shunt and will continue to deteriorate. I just found out the REAL results of my CT scan in 1980 by calling the hospital in Ohio and requesting all info on this admission. I never dreamed a physician would withhold this information and NEVER refer me to a specialist. I spent the last 29 years ignoring some subtle symptoms while my ventricles expanded to the point that I can no longer have a shunt and all damage is permanent. What are my legal rights especially since I just discovered the true results of my CT scan performed back in 1980.
