I was reading that tic chick collectd beanie babies and I started to think, who collects what?

I collect magnets. I like those 3D ones.

I also have several Precious Moments figurines (a few hundred dollars worth) & John got me a lovely curio cabinette so I can dispal them in the living room. Every special holliday I get one. My son got me one for mothers day -- "Mom your love makes me Blossom".

I collect eggs. Stone eggs, wooden eggs, some flowered eggs, wax eggs. I don't buy every egg I see. Otherwise my house would be full but they have to call my name when I see them.

I collect Hippo's. My oldest started telling me he loved me "whole hippo's" when he was very little. It kind of stuck and my youngest son made my first hippo in art class. A perfect clay hippo, ears and all!

Now I have outdoor hippos, one is asleep one is roaring and stepping stones and just about every other hippo people find for me. This past Christmas I received a very special and only hippo Christmas ornament

Each of my grands have a hippo toy from Nana..

I suppose ya could say I collect books in a way lol as any book that I buy or have bought for me and Ive read them I WILL NOT throw them out,I keep them in my own little library lol.

Another thing I suppose ya could say I collect is cuddly toys in a way as I now have a fair few for the FIRST time ever in my life!! As I NEVER got any or was allowed any as a child!!!

Other than that nothing really. Demi XX

OK, this is fun! Now I've started a cheat sheet just for you collector's,never know what I'll find when out going to sales......

I used to collect cats. Still have some special ones but discovered they are easy sell items!

I collect small stained glass or art glass, especially in orange or red.

In my 20's I began collecting graniteware,I had a huge collection & it came in handy when I needed money & sold every piece of it to a dealer. I still buy/sell it all the time. I especially like the stuff from Europe or the UK. I recently scored on a huge olive oil vessel from England.

In my 40 yrs of buying/selling the most weird thing anyone ever collected was plastic bumblebee's! Go figure.......

Jeannie my 2nd DD used to collect Beannie Babies years ago.But shed buy or get all sorts of them, and she had quiet a collection in the end. The most special one she had was one given to her by a lady she used to work with in a little tea-room which was her first ever job and the day she finished this lady gave her a lovely pastel multi-coloured one that had exactly the same birth-date as my DD!!
And the day my DD left home to live n work she actually gave me a German Shepard Dog one that Id always admired/wanted lol of hers, and I thought that was really thoughtful of her.Bless her it has not got pride of place on my unit!!

I have also been collecting Charles Wysocki art and plates. He is a Northern Californian artist from where I used to live. He is known for Americana art. I absolutely love it! I really don't care for the cat items.

i collected teddy bear of all sorts. until daughter started in with her stuffed collection. doctor said allergies and stuffed animals don';t mix, so my smaller ones are in the china hutch.
one of the sweetest things our son did was tell dad to buy me a certain bear he knew i liked at a store once. it's kinda big so it's in the attic.

Phyllis, do you dress your beanie babies in jewelry?

I also collect rocks. Well did anyway, have rocks from just about every river I've been to in WA. Some are so big I can't lift them,my son used to bring them to me for Mother's Day,etc.

Which brings to mind the movie with Lucy & Desi,"The Long Long Trailer" or something like that. She had the trailer so full of rocks it couldn't get up the mountain!

I collect tea cups. Large ones and small ones. I've had to stop collecting them because I have a lot of them.

Books is also something I collect. I need to donate some of them. Way too many.

Lately, I've collected a few turtles. Little ones.

How could anyone deny a child the presence of a teddy bear?

Gene, do you frame those bills for display?(and it's good to see you posting on one of our "fun" threads).

Speaking of stuffed animals, yesterday a local car lot had huge stuffed lions, white tigers & even a dragon sitting on top of the cars. I thought it was a clever idea, sure to be noticed. I wanted the dragon for Demi, doubt I could afford the car though!

My son collects something nice (if you are a guy you might be more likely to know about this thing). He collects those "True Value" model trucks. His grandma started buying them when he was 2 or 3. He has around 22 now & in the original box & perfect condition. My DH bought car #1 for him on E Bay. Every Christmas DH & I drive to a nearby town to the only store that sells them & get the latest one. (arround $40). From "True Value" hardwhere. They have some itricate details on them.

I was letting the dogs out & saw something most all of us collected for at least one night when little. LIGHTNING BUGS! (some say firefies) :)

joy

lor now i'll be looking for those trucks myself. some do have a lot of detail on them i'm sure.

we wre lucky enough to have a tractor made by the company our daughter-in-law's dad worked for. hubby gave it to her already but for the life of me i can't remember the name of it. case i think, not john deer, i'd remember that as that's what my daddy had and even us for a time when i was a kid.

grand daughter loves catching those lightning bugs !! guess most kids have given that a hand at trying to do that.

[B]no but i was glad to see on an educational show the other night a pic of one of those toimato worms. i use to kill them when a kid and remember doing so. in my "older' days, i began to worry that i had killed a butterfly, LOL. not so, it was those big ole green tomato worms. and i'm sure enough that my mama had me doing it now that i know just what they are, LOL.

I forgot, I also kind of collect rocks. I have a piece of the Berlin Wall when it came down, a piece of a glacier in Alaska when I went up on the helicopter to the top.

I love rocks from the sea along with sea glass. I have all of the rocks my great grandmother had, she used to hike all over the dessert in southern California, the Sierras and the Southwest. She was quite an adventuress!

I think I have way too many interests!

Buttons2
06-29-2009, 02:52 PM
Joy, the company was named Case, then was joined into Case International,my HM used to drive one.

Kathy, in my opinion ya can never have too many interests! That's just what keeps life interesting I think.

I also used to collect feathers, now I'm back to doing that again & I added an owl feather yesterday.

Well of course I collected buttons at one time also. Then couldn't figure out what to do with them so now I sell them. I seem to be craft challenged! Glued some on a box once & they all fell off & I got burned on the hot glue gun.

dad worked for Case tractor's. we had one still in it's old boc so we gave it to her.

she had a step dad. i think he is into baseball b ig time. they go to FL evey year at the time of training i think, because of that. we had a john deere at home, daddy morgaged the whole farm to buy a used tractor. gosh i shook when i read that after he died.

the troubles he must have had our whole life by not having a dependable living from farming. very hard job for dependable money at times.

Well this got me thinking how my grandpa used a mule & hand plow. Around this area we are surrounded by huge John Deere equipment worth zillions of dollars. They can work the fields with air conditioning & stereo's nowadays.

Hey, when we adopted Buttons she had on a pink fleece John Deere coat!

John Deere products are always bright green & yellow, the deer logo is white.

gosh, my brain has gone looney today! *ack

I collect teddy bears. I have so many I am running out of room. Have begun to give grand's on with thier gift's every year. The Teddy's are the hardest to give away. Beany Baby Teddy Bears. are growing like the tomato plants.

WE have big tomato's really big, and blooms everywhere, but they just keep growing up, produce more pretty little flowers, but the darn things won't get a ripe one. Maybe I'm not holding my mouth right. Jo

Jo, maybe ya need to sing to them? My plant is just now getting little tiny tomatoes,HM & myself are having a competition to see who gets a ripe one first. His are organic & the leaves are turning yellow.....

Ceramic tea pots

houghchrst
08-12-2009, 11:28 PM
My grandma collected tea pots. Unfortunately as she got older and more depressed she sold most of them. I got to pick one of those left and it is a simple brown one. I don't think it is ceramic though. Whatever it is made out of baked brown or else it was entirely coated with a mat brown base coat.

Welcome Gal. Good to see you here!
