Please help me to diagnose a very strange problem.
My sister, now 49 years old, starting passing out 4 years ago. When it happens, she feels poorly for a minute or so before, then she passes out. She may go in and out of consciousness, or she may go totally out.
She was initially diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncope. However, she was later told that this is not what she has.
She has done well and not passed out for the past 6 months (no explanation of why). Yesterday, however, began a new and unusual development. Yesterday she not only passed out, but while passed out, she flailed her arms and her legs. This is NOT a tonic clonic seizure. Her arms, legs and body are not stiff. The arms are flailing like the robot in Lost in Space, and her legs look as if she is trying to kick the covers off. She went on to do this 20 times between yesterday and today. (Each episode lasts up to 2 minutes) This morning, an EEG was done during an episode, and it showed NO seizure activity. Furthermore, many of these episodes occurred while she was on Ativan at the hospital.
We are stumped and not sure where to go next. While I realize that this is not seizure activity, I am posting this here in case anyone has ever seen anything similar. I will also post a link to this in other forums. Tomorrow, I hope to have a Youtube video link to post.
Thank you for any comments or thoughts.
