Hi,
New to this site. I've had 6 TMJ surgeries, the last one in May '07 I had a total joint replacement resulting in 5th nerve damage. It's been over 2 yrs. now, so the dr's say the nerve will not recover. I have had constant pain 24/7 for over 2 yrs (no remission)-burning, electric shock type pain, pins and needles, some stabbing pain, tight feeling, located on my right side bottom lip, chin, side of face, in front of ear, neck and occassionaly the right side of my tongue. I had been on Lyrica, but recently switched to neurontin. Also, take oxycodone for the pain.
I'm looking for someone who may have a similiar story as mine. I'm reading the Striking Back book, but the TN from injury seems less covered in the book.
I'd appreciate any feedback.
Thank you,
Tina N

Hi, I just recently posted one myself about TMJ and nerve damage. After reading your situation, mine doesnt seem that bad. I just posted mine, I dont wanna duplicate it. But my email is posted, so write me back through that if you want. That would be cool. You know, this TMJ stuff really hurts. I dont understand why my insurance doesnt cover it. Does your face swell? Mine does. You mentioned nerve damage and tightness, can you still swallow?

Hey, write me back. I will listen.

I'm not sure how to check your post. I'm new here and still figuring it out. So if you know how please let me know.
My face doesn't swell, and I can swallow. For a while after surgery (May '07) the right side of my tongue was numb, and had pins and needles pain, and shooting pains, and just felt huge in my mouth, and I wasn't able to swallow pills, but that was for about a month.
I'm very interested in reading your story, so let me know how I can get to it.
Thank you!
Tina N
