First of all has your wife been to a doctor to find out why it is painful. She may have a medical condition that makes it seriously painful or uncomfortable for her and it may be something that can be taken care of. You two may want to try counseling. Most likely she doesn't like it because it is too uncomfortable for her. Talk to her and see if she is willing to do any of the above. If not then I guess it would depend on your level of dedication to your spouse, how important sex really is in your relationship, and how much your vows mean to you.

do you think your wife isn't having any pain and is just using that as an excuse because she doesn't like or want sex anymore?
is she postmenopausal or still having her cycles?
is this something new or has she shown a declining interest in sex over the years you've been married?
i think you have to tell her that you two need to talk honestly. ask her questions, listen to what she says.
tell her how you feel. maybe you can see what is really the problem and come to some kind of agreement about what to do.
just as your wife has the right not to have sex with you, you also have the right to an enjoyable sex life. if you can't compromise or work it out through therapy, there is no committment and thus, no marriage, anyway.
