I am ready to get out of nursing after three years. I lost my job last week at a large hospital on the progressive cardiology floor. They told me I was "lacking in basic nursing skills", but wouldn't enlighten me as to what skills they were referring to. I came there from the ER which doesn't have any work for me right now even though I am still employed there PRN. They also said that a pt. told them that "If you were the only nurse taking care of me I would be in trouble". I don't know what I did wrong. I was in orientation, and they would not give me any feedback during the entire six weeks. My preceptor said she thought I was doing fine, but when they dropped the bombshell they said that she said I was a horrible nurse. I don't really know what to think. I know they are wrong, but I don't know what they are basing their judgements on. I feel like I have been put down and judged unfairly. I know I am not a perfect person, but I know that I have common sense and can perform as a reasonably prudent nurse.
