More than likely it's your machine clouds. A 2.5mb program running on an older slower machine will experience problems, especially with 256mb of RAM or less available. You talk of using 3. versions of windows, I assume your computer is pretty old, relatively speaking. (I have several older machines laying around that still work great, but like me just getting older and slower than the new kids on the block. )

I know this can't be helped but it sounds like there's just too much running at one time on your machine for IE to work properly, then the whole thing just shuts down. Just too much for the old girl to handle. Sorry, I don't know anything about Firefox. I've never had any problems with Internet Explorer since the first version was written.

clouds,
You're not the only person to have this problem with bookmarks when downloading the new version of firefox. I had same problem. I haven't a clue why it messed up, but it didn't look anything like it should. Ended up doing a quick restore and then I waited a while and re-downloaded it and everything was just fine. I had downloaded it around the first day it was released and made the mistake of checking some other add-ons at the same time. I haven't a clue why it messed up, but it didn't look anything like it should. I use only firefox.

Since Firefox came out, that's the main browser I use. I installed 2.0 w/no trouble, but just did a search on their site, about loss of bookmarks... This problem is caused by the installer not properly closing Firefox before doing the upgrade.
