The addons are programs for your Windows installation.
Integrate them as hotfixes with nLite (http://www.nliteos.com/) and they will be silently installed during Windows setup :)

What You Need:
- nLite (http://www.nliteos.com/)
- .Net Framework 2.0 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en)
- Windows CD

Duration:
The whole procedure takes from 5 to 20 minutes (burning of the CD included).

How To Do It:
1. Copy the content of your Windows install CD to your hard drive.
2. Watch the video (~2 mins, 1MB), after that burn the created ISO either with Nero or with nLite's integrated burner.

Download VIDEO HowTo: RogePost (http://www.rogepost.com/dn/wpb6) or GigaSize (http://www.gigasize.com/get.php/218088/HowTo_Integrate_Addons.avi) (1,2MB)

Here is the list of all addons for nLite that I have created
last updated: 27/02/2007

NONE of these addons contain spyware, toolbars or other annoyances :)
Most of them are freeware.

Do I see a spammer?

seems like he posts 3 posts then leaves in a lot of forums... either being very helpful. OR...

@ bewolf - I'm not a spammer.
I created all this, it was quite appreciated on the other forums where it was posted... so I spread the word ;)

I hope you like it :)

You know what's funny?
If I came here asking what's the best antivirus (or another dummy question) - it's ok.
Ir I came and share some info that could be useful to somebody - this guy is strange, you better ban him, etc.

I can't be a super moderator with 2000+ posts everywhere.
There are forums where I don't post much, just essential information.
Do you think this is wrong?

My work was worshiped here, banned there...
It's perfectly OK for NeoWin and a nono for MajorGeeks

You never know :D

If there is an interest in my guide I will make my best to keep this topic as updated as possible.

why is any of that my favorite software?

surely it is illegal to alter the windows installation disks. to the best of my knowledge, it is not even possible to copy them.

It's perfectly OK for personal usage.
Even MS provides splitstreaming support/tools and stuff ;)

You don't want me to believe splitstreaming SP2 or IE7 into your Windows copy is illegal.

why do i want these things?

You probably don't, Annie. I highly doubt if ANY of that is even on your machine or ever will be. How often do you really need to convert an .AVI file to an Mpeg? :D Do you need a file-unlocker hanging around when you can just edit the registry?

These programs are all freeware and can be found all over the net. If you ever find yourself needing to reinstall windows, just go get them again if you want any of them or copy them to disc now and reinstall them manually when needed.

Simple things don't need to be made difficult.

yes, you updated, but you still are not giving me any reason whatsoever to want what you are offerring.

it still looks extremely dangerous to me to mess around with windows installation disks. not to mention that i think it is illegal.

the programs i recognize are programs that have to be updated frequently, so saving an elderly version on a CD seems to me like an enormous waste of time if i am just going to have to go download a current version anyway.

most of the programs you mention are things i never heard of and have no idea what they do or why anyone would want them on their computer. you say they are safe, but i don't know you.

@ annie

1. This guide is not intended for your use only. It's not done especially for you.
It's intended for the computer enthusiasts in general. So if you don't like it - just don't read it.
2. There are links provided with the official websites for every program listed here. If you don't know it and if you're interested - just go and check.
3. It's absolutely NOT extremely dangerous to mess around with windows installation disks if you're a computer enthusiast.

If I come here asking stupid questions (what's the best antivirus, download manager, etc.) it's perfectly OK.
If I share a guide that actually could be useful for someone - that's a big nono.

That's sad.

If a mod decide that my guide couldn't be of any help to anyone here - then please delete my thread. I wont be angry.

Rado354, you're also making a large assumption here. Windows has not provided installation disks bundled with computers for quite some time. I think the last time was Win95 or Win98. You only get recovery disks now. The last 4 computers I purchased didn't come with them anyway. I AM a computer enthuiast and even if I had the installation disks (which I could get within 1 day if I really wanted them) I still see no need to integrate freeware into the installation.

You posting this here is perfectly OK as far as I can see and it looks like you put quite a bit of work into it. For an "enthuiast" as you say, there is just no need for it at all. Thank you for sharing it with us though.

Your post is fine as it doesn't violate the TOS and isn't illegal. In fact I've used your idea on my own computer.

However I must point out that there are NO stupid questions....especially here. Do you realize what this community is about? I suggest you take a few moments and just browse around. Maybe then you'll realize why I felt compelled to address this part of your post.

My HPs (a desktop PC and a laptop - XP O/S) each came with installation discs.

Are you positive they're WINDOWS installation discs?

I have a footlocker full of software, the only Windows installation disc I have is a Win98 CD. I've had PC's since 1987 and still have all the software since then in that box.

Our two desktops before this one have been HPs. No discs.
Our last laptop was an HP. No discs.

We just bought an HP dual-core laptop and an HP dual-core desktop. Sealed boxes every time. No discs, not even recovery discs. You have 1 chance to make your own otherwise recovery is done from D: There have been class action lawsuits against Microsoft for not providing the discs with the machines with Windows pre-loaded on them. You must be one of the lucky ones. I recently BOUGHT the WinXP software to put on a new HD for my son when he fried his HD. It was almost $200.00USD.

but you see, rado, we don't know you.

there are people posting on this thread who have been helping me configure computers for a very long time. quite possibly they were helping me with computer configuration before you were born. i know these people. i trust these people. i have good reasons to trust them.

enthusiasm is, to my mind, no substitute for trustworthyness.

@ Mike Weins - my example was bad. A stupid question is asking something that was discussed several times in the last month and you didn't use the search button ;)

I'm sorry for the guys without a Windows installation CD, it's not my fault though.

@ annie - there is a map with my visitors on my blog, you can check it out and decide for yourself trust me or not ;)
And I don't believe WordPress would host malicious content either.
Furthermore you can check the official nLite application addons forum - they don't publish malicious content either.

So those who are interested in my guide here (and computer skilled) can easily check if it's trustful or not.

Greetings!

I'm positive :). I wouldn't have bought the computers without the discs.

My previous computer (a Gateway) also came with discs - for re-installation - but no Product Key; it was my first non-Mac PC and I wasn't very familiar with MS products and didn't know I needed product keys, etc. Each time something blew out on the HD, a new key was issued and it was a major pain.

I wasn't about to go through the same with newer computers. When I did a reformat - on my laptop - and a clean reinstall, it took me a bit of time to find the Product Key. Ahhh, I remember it well. The key is on the underneath side of the computer.

My best friend, however, also bought HPs (desktop and laptop); one of her 'puters didn't come with the discs.

Hello
Hp has a hidden partition that stores the recovery info and where you make the recovery discs about eight of them but only once can you used this process.

HP: How To Make a Recovery Disk (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=bph08097)

Hope this helps :)

Bobbi, those aren't Windows installation discs, those are just the recovery discs containing drivers and applications. You'll know you don't have them when you're screen says something like:

"Windows has encountered an unrecoverable error. Please insert Windows installation disc 2 into drive E: and press any key to continue.."

THEN you go looking for the Windows installation discs and ...........

Bobbi
12-15-2006, 10:22 PM
Matt,

The disc on the left (upper) side is the CD for MS Windows XP; it's the Operating System disc.

It reads Operating System CD and Microsoft Windows XP... etc.

That disc is the platform disc. To reinstall the XP platform, only one disc (each computer) is required. It works on my computers. I've used the discs and encountered no problems or error prompts.

You might want to take another look at the attachment :). I can re-do the photo and focus solely on the O/S disc; it was quite early this morn. when I snapped the shot and it's a bit fuzzy but it can be downloaded and enlarged in an image viewer.

My program apps. (I've purchased), and so on, I've backed up on external CD or HD.

To re-install what was originally bundled with my computers, I also have the discs needed: operating system, drivers, and applications (all depicted in the photo); there are more discs that were part of the bundle but I was trying to show the Operating System disc, since, without it, the others are useless.
