Hiya everyone,

I'm new here. My name is Chrissy, I'm 27 and I've suffered with depression and anxiety as far back as I can remember. I had my first appointment with a psychiatrist on Tuesday (26th May) and he said that I may have a personality disorder. He wasnt a very nice guy in fact he was an arse and made me feel awful but he didnt even explain what it was or what one I am mostly like. So I went on Wiki and looked it up and I read that there are like 3 or 4 clusters or types of personality disorders and I have characteristics of each of them. Does this mean I have a multiple Personality Disorder??

It's not always necessary to like your therapist/psych, but it sure does make things easier if you do. More alarming is the idea that he would drop something like that into your lap on a first visit without any explanation or anything. Look for another psych - one that you can trust to help you.

Thank you very much for your reply. That is exactly what he did, just dropped this bombshell on me and then left me to work it out for myself. I will definately look for another pshyc. I honestly don't think that I could actually physically make myself walk back into his office for another appointment. The thought of seeing him again makes me feel sick and dizzy. Not healthy.

A doctor like that is not going to help you as much as one who cares. The idea of any mental illness is scary at first because of the social stigma. If he could not be more gentle with you then he has no respect for you in which case he won't be as useful to you. I chose not to use a therapist once because she was counter productive. You will feel better if you take control of your care and find someone else to work with.
