So I just arrived at my parents' house for the weekend. My mom told me there were carrots in the refrigerator, and I went to eat some. She just bought them, and I myself opened the bag. This was like 10 minutes ago.
My mom walks out into the kitchen and gets a carrot out of the bag. I had by that time eaten four or five. Nothing seemed amiss to me. So I'm chowing away and she takes a carrot out of the bag. Suddenly she goes: "Ew. What's wrong with these carrots? I just bought them." I asked her what she meant. She said: "Don't eat these. They're covered with crap." Now I'm getting anxious. I ask her what kind of crap. She answers "Mold."
EWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!! I'd just eaten like four or five of the things without even noticing a problem. I am utterly grossed out.
How nice it was that she told me it won't kill me. She goes: "You might get an upset stomach. You might get diarrhea. But you won't die from it." Gee, thanks Mom. I always wanted to eat something moldy that might cause upset stomach and diarrhea. :p NOT!

Lauren, I'm sure that if you had gotten one that had some mold on it that you would have noticed.
Course that doesn't remove the fact that the other carrots in the bag likely had a good deal of bacteria on them too...but like your mom said...you won't die from it...and likely you've eaten worse things in your life.
But here's a good tip for ya...ALWAYS wash your produce before you eat it...even if it's in a bag or package...and even if that package says it's been washed.
Take a couple minutes and google if you don't think it's important...you'll see most food poisonings come from produce, and the end recommendation is always the same...wash it well before you eat it...in some cases, like with leafy stuff...soak it.
sorry couldn't resist the motherly lecture :D
I'm sure your GI system is strong enough to handle it, after all most cheese has HUGE amounts of mold spores.
Hope you don't get sick!

I did notice that at least one or two of them seemed a little slimy, but I thought it was just wet, like condensation or something.
Yeah, cheese is already mold. And I love the stuff. LOL

eeewwwww, thats gross, I would have been vomiting. I have some trouble because I inspect everything before I eat it, like to a OCD level, nothing like that would have got past me. Like when I eat grapes I have to inspect every single one for anything like this.

That reminds me of part of our exchange. Well first some background. One thing we've learned is if a dog or cat ingests something they shouldn't (and it is caught right away), you can get them to drink a bit of hydrogen peroxide to make them vomit it back up. Well I was so horrified at what I'd eaten, my mom goes: "Well, if you're that worried about it, drink some hydrogen peroxide and puke." Um, thanks but no thanks. I asked her if that works on people too. She said she assumed so, then said: "Why don't you try it and report on the experiment?" Umm, I think I'll pass on that one.

It does work on humans. One of my daughters (not Allie) grabbed a cup that had HP in it and thinking it was water, drank it. It was only @ 1/4 cup, We called poison control- they said she'd be fine, it'd probably just make her throw up. It did.

I got something gross to add, today I did a race and it was raining, really hard, the whole race. When it is raining during a bike race the person infront of you, there wheel sprays water all over you, along with whatever is on the road, dirt, horse crap, whatever. Because your breathing hard you have to have your mouth open to breath, Well I didnt even have to take a drink the whole race, and at the end I looked in the mirror in my car and there was a bunch of dirt between my teeth, reminded me of those Orbit gum TV ads "dirty mouth", yep. It was very gross, and to think of what must have been flying in my mouth!!!! During the race a guy yells out "we dont even need to take a drink during this race". Ewwww

Please tell me everyone wasn't actually swallowing what was flying into their mouths.
