The bank I'm with (BoA) makes mistakes with my direct deposits nearly 5 times just this year. I also because of the mistakes they make I keep getting charge overdraft fees! UGH. Anyway that's it I'm done and going to close my account after this months disaster is cleared up. SS will be sending me paper checks. Can I go with ID to any bank and have tem cash it?
Thanks

I have found that my local carryout will cash it for a fee of 2 percent.I had too many problems with my bank during my wait for approval and closed the acct. You should check around in your area and ask for their individual fees etc. Also, Giant Eagle is a good place to cash checks.Good luck to you.

when bank of america bought my bank i stayed with them until the first mistake.
getting paper checks can create more problems than a bank. my mail carrier kept being robbed on check day, until they stopped delivering the checks and we had to go to the post office to pick them up. you also get your money earlier if it is direct deposit.
most banks are happy to help you change your direct deposit.
when i went to the nearest other bank to change mine, the waiting area was full and when i walked in everyone started to laugh. turned out that they were the people behind me in line at the bank of america. they were ALL moving their accounts. the person who set up my account said one man had moved accounts worth several million because of the way i had been treated.
remember, it is your money. the bank makes money off of you. don't let them push you around.
if that is the only bank in your area, you have my complete sympathy.
well, you had that anyway.

that is an excellent site, i just made a note of it for a very confused neighbor. thank you.
it still doesn't address the bank of america problem tho, if she had direct deposit to bank of america and they were messing up nothing will stop them from messing up an electronic transfer.

thanks for the suggestions. unfortunately its BoA that offers the ETA in my area! insanity! i am waiting for a check i wrote to clear and then i'm gone. total cheats they are. There is a credit union nearby and im going to see if I qualify for membership, if not I guess ill have to go to a check cashing place and pay the fee. i thought all banks had to cash ssdi checks but i guess not.

i think even nation wide banking organizations like orange direct can have you funds transferred and direct deposit.
i rarely write checks, i use a debit card or a credit card to pay forevrthing.
you dont need a local bank than.
i would not cash my check, the crooks know when the checks come it and where the check cashing places are.
