UGggggggggggggggggggggggggg Tomorrow (Friday) is MY day to deal with Adam's IEP or should I say REVIEW IEP.. His Triannual was back in Dec but he still is getting "F's" and yet nothing is being done about it and he is suppose to graduate 8th grade on 28th!! Being that I'm a Parent Rep for our CAC/SELPA and now was just elected to be the chairperson.. I asked the SELPA REP of our district if she will help me with this. She can't come to the IEP itself BUT she had a lil time open tomorrow morning so I'm going over there and we are going to go over his IEP and try to create some goals for Adam ourselves.

I have always felt like a lamb surrounded by lions in these IEPs and like they never believe me.

Even today I was talking to the resource teacher (one in charge) and she ARGUED with me when I brought up again about Adam being on Spectrum that they DONT SEE IT. Well if they ever came to the CAC sessions especially on Autism/Aspergers they might learn some things. I just attended an all day Autism forum and learned even more about Aspergers and one was that SOME Aspies will act out at school and be sweet at home and others will be sweet and perfect at school and hold all the stress in and then let it out at home... THATS what Adam does! He takes it out on me and Noah.

THEN I brought up how Adam has had an "F" in Science ALL YEAR since 1st quarter and nothing has been done and it CANT be just him not doing homework.. She said that she didn't know and that the teacher never mentioned it to her :angry1: . She said she never see's the resource kids report cards (then said maybe she needs to start)!!! Uhhhh YEAHHHHHHHHHH!
I always THOUGHT she knew their grades since she was incharge and yet school is out on the 29th and she is the one in charge of running the IEP's and resource yet she doesnt know when HER KIDS are FAILING!!! She says Adams teacher hasnt said anything!! Well Adam's teacher has 31 students!! I think its both their fault for not communicating and mine for not making sure they ARE communicating!!

As Adam and Noah's school counselor said today.. This all should have been taken care of 6 months ago!!! NOT the end of the year!! I'm not even sure if this is just the review or if she is combining the trianual also. I do know the SP ED of the charter high school he will be going to next yr will be there also. We also are pulling Adam into this. They are trying to say that his failing is ONLY because he doesn't do his homework!! I dont think so.

Anyway... I need to get to bed since its midnight.. but.. I'm glad I have the SELPA rep to help me first and Im going to the school in the morning first to see if I can get the teacher to tell me any weaknesses that Adam needs to work on that we can write down for goals.

Right now the only goals they have is that Adam will write his homework down in his journal and get me to sign daily and that Adam will do his homework... WHICH HE ISN'T DOING!! SELPA says those are DUMB goals! he needs EDUCATIONAL goals!..

So pray we can get GOOD GOALS and that Adam WILL DO THEM! I was going to put Adam will agree to do them BUT Adam DOES "AGREE" to do things TIL we GET HOME!! THENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN he REFUSES when we are at home away from those people!!

I'll let you know what happens!!

uggggggggggg Later I will bring up Noah's happenings... They took him OFF IEP and put on 504 and he is now failing.. I told them I could HOMESCHOOL him and do that or better!! So now thinking of pulling him out of there and putting him in Charter school also.. BUT dont know if I want both boys home and more fighting!!!

All I can say (especially right now at this early hour of the AM) is I completely understand and I'm sorry ANYBODY has to do this. Why do we have to figure out what what they should do to help our kids and THEN (even with evidence that they are failing to elicite growth) hardsell them on the idea that they've got to make changes?

On the other hand.......I think they might be right. Let me explain. It does seem like any and every kid or adult who has social issues is automaticly labeled as an "Aspie" Not quite..... the whole social issues thing is just a part of it. Someone can have social issues without it being " Asperger's"
For example it's very common for LD/ADD/ just genral disabled kids to have social issues......but their social issues aren't Aspie.
What kind of placement is your son in? Maybe a good idea might be to have him placed at a private school catering to kids with LDs for high school.
I highly highly strongly reccomend that sort of placement. High school can be hell for nondisabled kids....and it can be beyond hell for kids with disabilites.
Even thou it's been ten years since I finished high school I still shudder at how bad it was. Hecy my parents now say they should have sent me anywhere but the mainstream high school.

Oh and gina....have you compared your son to someone who obviously has autism? The difference can be amazing. Yes, I know about the "spectrum" explaination.....but on the other hand.....someone who just has mild "making friends" issues is as different as night and day from someone who talks about the skin on their arms being streatchy, and who follows girls around and who thinks that someone's their friend when they've talked to them once or twice, or someone who sees you dancing and thinks that you're their friend.
Also Gina remember that generally the public schools tend to be best at educating "average" kids....yes, they offer resource room, but a lot of those kids are there just b/c it's a dumping ground. He may do better at another school.
