My daughter emailed me some photos.
I downloaded them. When I tried to upload the to send of to be printed it failed. So I phoned & was I needed to convert them (bitmap) to jpg format.
I did a Google search & found some downloadable programs.
The problem is I never dowload from a source I do not know.
Can anyone recommend one?
Or did my daughter send them the wrong way & I just need to have her redo it properly?

If your computer is running XP (as its O/S or operating platform), Microsoft (MS) Paint was likely packaged in your computer.
You can open the bitmap images, then go to the File menu and Save As .jpg.
To locate, MS Paint:
Go to the Start menu
Click on All Programs
And, look within Accessories

Thanks!
That was so easy! And it saved me a lot of searching around. As you read I was looking at special software to down load.
By the way that brings me to a new question.
Do people usually only download progams that someone has told them about?
If not how much risk is involved in finding a program that sounds useful & downloading it?
Anyway,
thanks for the excellent instructions!

Cathy,
I'm certain that you'll read many views on what folks think of downloading programs from the Net.
Myself? Generally: I will do so, if it's an authorized release from a software maker's site or mirror site. I've also downloaded programs from sources I've searched and searched (and after reading a ton of consumers' reviews). If a friend tells me about an application, as well, and there has not been any spyware embedded, I might also try it, but it has to be something I'm interested in.
My first preference, though, is to buy (off the-net) or to order the CD version.
Here's an idea: If you do want to try out a program (and it has a trial use period), I'd do a search via search engines about what others have written of the program. What users have to say is what I care most about :).

Cathy, I have an idea ...
Maybe, if you notice other BT members also having some probs. with bitmap images, you could share with them how to covert them using Paint - as long as they're also on XP ;).
Too, if on the Web, surfing about, and an image is in bitmap, all one need do is save it as .jpg (renaming the file extension to jpg).
Thanks a mill. in advance if you do see where someone else might need a bit of assistance :).

BTW- Paint is also with 98SE (and others, I imagine).
You can save as .bmp or .gif image.
