So im new to this thread =)
I better introduce myself.
Im jade, im 17 and have a CSF shunt going inot my heart from my head.
Ive had quite a few surgeries recently related to this, but the last time my head was operated on was in september 08. The more recent operations have been distal ends of the shunt.
In september my low pressure VP shunt malfunctioned and was revised to a high pressure VP shunt. It was then converted in feb 09 to a VA shunt.
Since september, ive been experiencing dull headaches, these became routine and ive noticed that they tend to come on whilst im upright and become less severe and tend to go when i lie down.
My neurosurgeon wants to put this down as a migraine!!
...so he referred me to a neurologist, whom of which i saw yesterday who spend all day assessing me, he was more than happy to rule out migraine. && so was the psychologist that saw me, they both pointed the blame for the headaches on the shunt draining too quickly.
The last thing i mentioned to my neurologist before i got up to leave was the fact that ive noticed a runny nose, that runs far more than what it would usually. This may not be everyday, but its only my right nostril, which i found bizarre as when you have a cold, it will tend to be both!!
He seemed to light up, he ran to his office and came back with a strip in which when my nose runs i should test the liquid for glucose. However he only gave me one.
When i showed my mum when i got home she said she has some of those for testing urine, 'Megastix 10 SG' Ive trimmed plenty down to just where the glucose testing part is used.
Although my nose hasnt really run today, ive tested a few.
My mum also tested her nose discharge so we could compare.
I tested my left nostril and i tested my right nostril.
My mums test came back with no colour change.
My left nostril came back with no colour change.
But each time ive tested my right nostril, there has been slight colour change. Not majorly, but its gone from blue to a bluey green colour eachtime.
My doctor mentioned about if it goes green or brown then consult them asap.
The colours on the container show different shades from the blue negative colour to brown positive colour and other colours in between.
The colour that is showing up in each of my right nostril tests are ending up between the NEGATIVE blue colour and the green TRACE colour or very similar to the TRACE colour. (Like this colour)
But there is deffinately a colour change as there wasnt with my mums test and with my left nostril tests.
As i say, my nose hasnt really run today, ive just tested the little bits of liquid that is lingering up my nose.
Does anyone have any advose, suggestions?
thank you =)
