Jimmie had OT and ST today. These are held concurrently with both therapists in the room working in tandem. Today, a student from St. Augustine College was also present. Throughout, Jimmie kept looking at the student, who was observing only (no participation). At the end, when his therapists were writing up their reports, he walks over to the young girl. She is sitting on the floor, so he is just about face to face with her. He stands there a few seconds and then, while looking her right in the eyes, says, "Mime MeMe." Meme is Jimmie. He's said it many times. I can only think Mime was "I'm". His ST about fell over.

Wow.... That is great!!! He is absorbing so much, he just needs his body to keep cooperating and he's off by leaps and bounds. Go MeMe!!!:D:)

That is so awesome!!! It took Caitlin over 2 years to start talking, and now she never shuts up. I hope that this is just the beginning for him! :D Were you in the room too? Hope that you got to hear it too! :)

That has to be one of the best presents you could ever get! Andy didn't say his name till he was 7, and still doesn't say it appropriately, or on command. But, let me tell you, the first time I heard him say it, you could have knocked me over with a feather! I'll bet he was either same "I'm" or even "My name Jimmie". Either way, it's quite the accomplishment! GO JIMMIE!

Wow. If he can communicate this way, are they suggesting that he learn sign language, too. Years ago I was told that teaching sign language does not stop a child from acquiring spoken language.

Carly has both - she says some words and signs others. We are now getting "thank you" - it takes some prompting, sometimes - but she is doing it.

P.S. --How is Charlie doing?

I had to read that not twice, but three times! That is freakin' awesome!

Amazing what some seizure control does for his brain :)

How many weeks are you guys on now? Or has it moved up to months?

**edited to add- Ri didn't start talking really well until she was past three but her language blossomed when we coupled it with sign. She still uses it especially when she gets made and doesn't want to talk (which isn't often).

I was wondering what the count was up to, too. Way to go Jimmie! Quite the social butterfly there.

That is absolutely fabulous...and I"m sure too that "mime" was "I'm"...but I was also struck by the other thing in there:

... he walks over to the young girl... He stands there a few seconds...whille looking her right in the eyes, ...

How dearly his Physical Therapist would've loved to be in the room too! :D

Good Job Jimmie and yeah for the good stuff Lacy!
