Hi all,

I was a heavy drinker in my teens and early 20's.. Had our first son and I pretty much gave it up. I would go 6-months + without a beer and when I had one I didnt want over 2. This was something I always thought I could control.

My 17 yr old son nearly died from a Traumatic Brain Injury last May and after many surgeries and nealry a year I find myself drinking LOTS of beer.. I stay home, I'm not a mean drinker, but yet I seem to want that beer and that feeling real bad all of the sudden..

Is this the common way you would feel when going down the road of becoming or possibly already being an alcoholic?

Could be, sounds like you are covering up a lot of feelings and possibly dealing with your stress by drinking. Maybe finding a different way with possibly therapy or even a group that meets in your area for caregivers support.

Also you may do well with psych therapy, a way to vent and talk about the stress and worry you have.

Find something else to do instead of grabbing that beer. After a while it will become second nature instead of the drinking becoming first.
