Someone I know got a grant for a guitar orchestra. Last week I went for an audition - but I was supposed to be more of an evaluation. I sat with 4 other guitarists and we had to do a cold reading! Yikes. I played a non-melody part because I didn't think I could do the melody cold. Plus, it was not familiar music at all. It was something he had written. But, it was a test.

He had told me that everyone was in and that he was just seeing what our skills were.

Well, today I got an e-mail - not even addressed personally, telling me that he could not accept 1/3 of the intermediate level players. I could apply again next year.

I'm not that upset, except that I told people I was part of this - and now I'm not. I wanted to try to play a wider range of music, too. Plus, the guy leading this world famous. He's an amazing musician and it would have been a great privilege to play.

My other group has been asked to play a graduation in June. So, we will have to rehearse, etc. I love playing with them and we are introducing new tunes as well. I just wrote the leader of that group and told her I would be more available. Plus, there are some dances coming up and I can play in the background band for those too. Those are fun and challenging.

And, my friend Steve wants to teach me some stuff. So, I guess it's ok. Just disappointing.

Hey Deb.

That is indeed very dissapointing. How frustrating for you.

Perhaps his music that he wanted you to play was unplayable and it was not fair that he gave it to you to sight read :) Siight reading is a skill in itself. Many top musicians can't sight read at all. Even the Beatles couldn't write music and had to have someone transcribe their music for them.

Keep positive Deb and work towards the next audition.

Best wishes and don't forget to upload a video of you playing with your group. We would love to see it.

Paul, Alison and Grant.

It's also that I am still smarting over that jerk here in town who made me so uncomfortable in his group that I left. He goes on line and brags that he has never asked anyone to leave - that they figure out how terrible they are and choose to go. HA! Some other friends of mine have quit his group because of "personalities."

This would have been one way to demonstrate how wrong he is. But, I know I shouldn't be worried about what he thinks. It just would have been great revenge of a sort.

(((Easter hugs))) I am so sorry, I feel your dissappointment in the post..

Next year you can exact your revenge! It will be sweet to show that jerk from before up!
