I was pleased to find this forum because I've had PN in my feet for a couple of years. In reading through a LOT of posts, I saw Vitamin B12 mentioned, so I decided to check on it further. I learned that stomach acid is required to break down B12 in order to be absorbed into the bloodstream and that a lack of B12 can be a cause of PN. I hear there are about 200 other possible causes as well

I've had GERD for just about 50 years (although it was never diagnosed as such in those early years), and have been popping antacids for almost as long. A few years ago, my gastroenterologist prescibed a daily 40mg dose of Protonix which has worked like a miracle in preventing heartburn. I find it odd that neither he, my neurologist, nor my PCP has ever mentioned this B12-acid-PN relationship to me.

In any case, I'm about to start taking sublingual B12 tables in the form of methylcobalamin to see if they have any effect on my PN. My problem is that it's not easy to determine which packagers of B12 can be trusted to provide the correct ingredients at the advertised amount. I expect some packagers are disreputable while others are simply incompetent.

Can anyone recommend a vitamin packager that can be trusted?

Thanks for your help.

Just thought I'd chime in here.

For about 6 months I injected daily (intramuscular) methylcobalamin. The neurologist I was seeing seemed to think that this was a better method that sublingual. It was made at a compound pharmacy and shipped to me each month. It didnt help my symptoms but in case the sublinguals dont work for you, this might be something to consider.

I use Jarrow 1000mcgs sub-lingual from iherb.
Been using it for about 5 years because of Rose's info
and suggestions.
iherb has about the best price and along with CoQ10 and ALA.
the order comes shipped quickly. I get about 4 bottles at a time
(along with the others to save shipping cost)

That doc is a rare one. Apparently the doc knows that there is a chance that huge doses of methylcobalamin will help even when there is not even a hint of B12 deficiency. Shown to help a percentage of those with ALS, MS, etc. Certainly worth a try.

A person who wants to increase their methylcobalamin dose can take more oral methylcobalamin. It won't be the quantity of a daily injection, but it can bathe that body in methylcobalamin.
