Hi there..

Increased Risk Of Kidney Stones In Patients Using Drug Prescribed For Migraines And Seizures.

Topiramate (Topamax), a drug commonly prescribed to treat seizures and migraine headaches, can increase the propensity of calcium phosphate kidney stones, researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have found.

A study - the largest cross-sectional examination of how the long-term use of topiramate affects kidney-stone formation - appears in the October issue of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases.

Interesting, Sandel...

I am on this now for the nerve pain. It really hasn't seemed to do a WHOLE lot for the CRPS....except tone down the sensitivity some. I guess that is worth the neuropathy I'm getting everywhere else! For some reason, it is helping me with some nerve damage pain I had before my lumbar fusion, not to mention taking a huge bite out of my headaches, so I'm sticking to it! :D

I've had kidney stones before, but none since I started this med, so...here's hoping..

Are there any others out there on this for their CRPS??

I was put on this originally for horrid migraines and thank God it has helped break the cycle. But, now I wonder if this drug has helped me join the ranks of everyone with this as I just recently was diagnosed in aug this year. I wonder if the tingling helped my foot injury progess or something....just an odd thought....I know we look for anything.

We have since increased to see if it would help the nerve pain. If it is helping, than I am in trouble. I am afraid to go off it as I do not want my headaches back with the foot pain too. YIKES.
