I post on tn board, but my sister who doesn't have a computer ask me to find out about this illness. She has been a vegetarian for over 10 yrs, but did not take any vitamins to subsitute and became B12 deficient. Over a yr ago she started having pain in her back and feet. Took B12 shots for over that yr with no help given. She is now on Elival 150mg, and neurontin 1200 mg, every day but the pain is getting worst. Is there anything else she can do to try and fix this problem. She still doesn't eat any meat or fish, which I don't know if it would help at this point. The doctors she goes to don't seem to know much about this illness, and she actually diagnose herself when she saw an article in the paper about this illness. Typical of most doctors I'm sorry to say.
I have printed several posts here and mail them to her, so any advise she will get.
Thank you
Catherine

Catherine,
Have you copied the B12 posts for her? Also the weekend is very slow and it is also a holiday, so keep checking back.

Here's the B12 link: http://roseannster.googlepages.com/

Also here are the sticky links from neurotalk : *******************************.com/showthread.php?t=177

There are three pages of important links there.

Catheine,
She needs to see a neurologist who SPECIALIZES in PN, ASAP !!
Her Neurontin/Gabapentin is at a very low dose for PN. She should have irt adjusted upwards by her neuro- not a GP or internist.
For other illnesses, the dosage is different- but for PN the numbers can go as high as 3600-4500mgs/day. B12 shots are good, but she should be supplementing with sublingual methyl cobalamin- not cyano or any other form.. Please read the links Billye gave you.
Also Rose Fuhrman has posted some as well, I believe. She has a site at:
http://roseannster.googlepages.com/home
Rose is a long standing expert on B12.
There is a thread on B12 on this page that she responded to, that is worth reading.
She has had a B12 problem that she feels could have been corrected, if found at an earlier stage, and has researched it extensively.
You also might try BT2 at Neurotalk:

for more info, too.(Billye posted this, as well)
