How do you deal with traumatic stress and flashbacks? I am over the abuse that happened to me while growing up, it is the past, but I still have flashbacks of some things that happened to me. How do you stop this from happening?

i don't know exactly what flashbacks are. all of us, of course, remember the abuse. we can bring back the feelings we felt then. we can see pictures in our head of being abused. if those are flashbacks, i don't think they ever go away.

if flashbacks keep you depressed for more than a few minutes, they are problematical and probably still need some kind of resolution.

i don't know if you've gone to therapy. that has helped many people put some kind of perspective on the abuse that gives them a reason why it happened and puts the fault on the abuser, not the abused.

you have to believe that there wasn't anything wrong with you that caused the abuse. if you have stress in your current life, it is more apt to cause you to remember your own abuse.

we all find our way. therapy and forgiveness gave me back myself. when i remember the abuse, it hurts, but i just stop thinking about it by putting my forgiveness perspective on it. it always works.

take care of yourself first. see if therapy will help you. enjoy the present moment and life as it is now.
