I constantly read about these low pressure or high pressure headaches. What are the differences?
Thanks!

Typically, the most noted difference is positional. Low pressure headaches either resolve or improve when patient lays down. High pressure headaches typically ONSET when down and resolve or improve when upright.

Other noted differences on high pressure side ... intense pressure inside skull sensations. Eyes feel like they're going to pop out. Visual disturbances, sometimes blurred vision.

Dh describes low pressure like there's boiling water pouring all over his brain. High pressure is like the sensation you get when you hang upside down and feel the pressure building in your head, but it doesn't quit.

Yeah, real scientific I know ;) but that's his description!

The difference for me was really only the positional aspect (worse when laying down vs. up---had to sleep upright a few weeks post op) but was told by my doc that patients will often say it burns. Like Laura said, vision disturbances and also nausea, vomitting and buzzing in ears can be symptoms.

Laura I actually describe my HA as pressure inside the skull and I have a leak. Like the feeling when you hang upside down especially when it first started. But at the same time I get like a squeezing dragging sensation with the pressure. I have no idea what this means. I never got the feeling of boiling water poured over my brain, that sounds awful! haha. I wonder if the position of the leak makes a difference. Like the farther the leak is away from your head the worse the HA is. Maybe because their is a longer length for the brain to be sucked down or something. I am pretty sure mine is high up in my neck so maybe this is why my HA is not sas severe. Who knows its prob different for everyone.
