View Full Version : HELP! New Seizure
Kara's Mama

I have seen a new type of seizure that Kara is having in the last couple days. I have not been able to get it on tape because it is over pretty quickly. I will explain it as best I can. It kinda looks like drop seizures but EVERYTHING goes forward and her head goes down. She does this up to 6 times in a row (within 5 seconds) and then holds her body tight on the last one still leaned forward. I have never seen this with her and I am about to go crazy! Has anyone seen a seizure like this? If so what was it and does it harm the child in any way? I am about to get ahold of her Neuro to ask them about it.
Thanks,
Rachel

Our neuro always used to ask if Jake was doing this. (he didn't) I believe it is an atonic seizure. It's still a drop seizure. You really need to call yor neuro and discuss it with him.

(((Hugs))) I was still thinking atonic, but I don't have any experience with it. Hope your neuro was helpful. Seizures suck.

I have still not heard from Kara's neuro. But, everything that I have looked up on atonic seizures say that they loose muscle tone during but Kara is the opposite of that. Her muscle tone is very high during the seizure. She has had several since but she is having a few less of her reg seizure so who knows what is going on in her brain at the moment. Thanks for your thoughts!

It's hard to tell without seeing it, but it sounds similar in some ways to what we see with Langan. We always thought it was a form of tonic clonic but learned when we finally got it on EEG that it was actually a series of tonic seizures. Not sure if that's what you're seeing but wanted to throw that out there.
