I know this comes up every year, but anyone know of any good costume ideas to incorporate my five-year-old in her wheelchair. They get to dress up for school this year...thought it would be fun to have something incorporated with her wheelchair.
Thanks!

One year I took a large cardboard box and wrapped it in that twisted crepe paper. She was a bird in a nest.
The other day was Pirate day at school (it is booster weeks, each day has a theme). I downloaded Pirate flags and taped them to her wheels.
On the Fourth of July I wove red, white and blue crepe paper through the spokes on the chair and did other stuff.
I have always draped things and attached things to the chair and then dressed her as something. Also, last year everyone in her class had to come to school as a construction worker. I put her in a plaid shirt and jeans and got toy tools and attached them to the chair.
Have fun.
I cut up a cardboard box and tied it / taped it to Spencer's walker. Kevin drew then painted Thomas the Tank Engine onto the box. This picture doesn't show the complete finished product but gives a general idea of what we did. Kevin still needs to paint the "top" area that covers the handle bars. I want Spencer to have ONE day where there is no real part of his walker that shows. :D
Good luck to you.

When Heather went Trick or Treating the hulahoop was my friend. :) I used it for all of her costumes except the last 3.
They are great for "round" type costumes.
I got a small hula hoop and duct taped it to the middle of her chair. Here's a list of what she was.
1. Lighted Jack O Lantern ~ I got a large plastic "Jack O Lantern" garbage bag (the one's you fill with leaves for your front lawn at halloween) cut the bottom off so the top and bottom were open. She wore a green turtle neck and I tucked the top of the bag in the turtleneck part and tied a green ribbon around it to keep it in. I Painted her face green and duct taped a flash light to her footrests and turn it on. I also cut out little arm slots to put her arms thru.
2. Giant Candy Kiss ~ I got an adult Candy Kiss costume pattern and shiny silver material at the fabric store and made it in about an hour. I painted her face silver.
3. Giant Bag of Jelly Beans ~ I got a large clear garbage bag. Again cut the bottom off so it was open. I put her in a white turtleneck and white sweats. I tucked the top of the garbage bag in her turtleneck and tied it with a ribbon. Then I filled the bag with different color and different shaped balloons. I taped the bottom to her wheelchair so the balloons would not come out.
4. Ski Bunny w/broken Leg ~ She already had the casts from hip surgery so I dressed her up in a snow suit with ski goggles, and ski gloves. We messed up her hair and gave her a "black eye".
5. Grumpy Old Woman ~ I was too lazy to build something so we put her in a old "granny gown" and put wrinkles on her face and put her hair in a bun and made it grey. The wheelchair just added to the effect.
6. Injured Horse Jockey ~ When she was doing hippotherapy they used to have horse shows. One year she was in a demonstration show at The Cow Palace in San Francisco. I made her a Jockey costume so we reused it for halloween and had her in the chair with a fake cast, fake bruses, a neck brace and riding crop.

Well lets see here deary.....We have had some fun with Miss Megs and Halloween
When she was around 5 or 6 we decorated a TV box (cut to fit over her chair of course), we painted it white, and cut out stenciled letters to spell Megan in the box, and then I got a few yards of lace and hot glued it all around the box to make it more frilly. Megan wore a pink and white silky clown suit and hat. She was Megan In the Box (Like jack in the box) She won a prize at the halloween contest at school that year..
One year we again, cut a TV box and painted it with the grey spray paint that had the specks in it. Then stenciled boxes around to look like bricks, and did some work to make towers. Megan wore a cute little princess dress and was a princess in her castle.......
One year she was the Statue of Liberty, We pulled her in her stander and dressed her up in a green outfit with the liberty hat and put a torch on her stander..........
A friend of ours decorated a box to look like an ambulance and put battery operated flashing lights on it it was really cool too......
This year I am being lazy and Megan and our 103 lb labrador are both dressing up as Princess Disney girls. I'm not decorating the chair this year.
Good luck to you deary, hope you come up with something you like.......

Hi!
Last year Caitlin went as Cinderella and I cut out 2 big circles and decorated them like the pumpkin carriage and tied one on each side of her chair...it was so cute! And of course I was up the night before gluing the rhinestones on the things...always the procrastinator!! This year she wants to be a princess or a bad witch-haven't bought the costumes for the kids yet!

This thread is full of so many cute ideas. I hadn't even considered taking Tehya,I figured I would just take Christian, and leave the little ones at home. After seeing this I might reconsider, after all I can eat her candy:D
