can a human with 30 % of the skull removed survive as a normal person do.

My cousin suddenly bleeded in the brain due to high blood pressure ,he has been taken to the hospital .The size of the bleed increased to 3*4 cms.Doctor removed nearly 3*4 cms skull and removed bleeded blood.And did`t replace removed skull.
