My best friends son who is 10 years old, loves the outside life (rain or shine) collapsed on the evening of the 12/03/09. He was taken to hospital stright away, and is now in intensive care with a Ruptured Aneurysm.
He has been induced into a coma and been given a paralyzing drug. he has also had three operations now (trying to stop the bleeding, opening the blood vessles, draining off the leaked blood within the head, due to the pressure on the brain) The hospital staff have all been brilliant (in every area) & we have been told that he will have limited use of his left side following a head scan. They have informed us that they are going to wean him off the drugs & try to wake him some time this week.
Can anybody please tell us if:

1) recovery is much quicker for a child of this age?
2) when he wakes, will he have memory loss (will he know his parents)?
3) will he have to learn how to walk & talk again?
4) any information regarding this condition.

nobody seems to know the answers or prehaps they do, but don't want to upset his parents anymore!

Any answers / advice would be a bonus at the moment, its so difficult for family members, friends & all who know him, to come to terms of this rare condition (in children we are told)

All i can do now is to Thank, All at Great Ormand Street Hospital, London, yourselfs for reading this Thread & To Anyone who can answer some of the questions above.

Hi sarahmark2,

You should post this in the Aneurysm Forum. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people there.

Welcome to BT and I hope you can find some answers.
