I just wanted to write a short note for those who are just beginning the journey through Social Security Disability land. How we did it I am not sure but my husband was approved in a real short period of time. We started the process on line on August 1, 2006 and he received his approval letter on November 9, 2006.
Just a few notes on what we did:
1) Our primary Care physician was the one who told us to initate SSDI.
2) I went with him to his meeting at the SSD office and I carried a novel, no less to them, including information off the internet regarding his condition (pineal cyst and hydrocephalus), I took an article pertaining to the procedure he had done. These articles just happened to be written by the same doc that did the procedures on him.
3) But I guess the bottom line was when we went to see the doc for evaluation or determination which everyone it was, hubby was not having a good brain day. He could not due the simple block pattern test, it stumped him and he has been a bricklayer all his life. Block patterns/Bricklayer, should have been easy. He was not only a Skilled Craftman but he was teaching his craft.
So even though I am glad that this part is over I am also sad that it went so quickly, this just reminds me that things are not the same any more and his brain is really not okay. And for me to read about all the things you guys are going through and having to fight breaks my heart even more. What gets me it is our money, we had to work they took it out of our paychecks, so why is it so hard to get it back, that is just not right.
Sorry if there was a way I would fight for each and everyone trying to get on SSDI the system needs alot of work.
